Just would like to have a discussion on why most fans on this sub who are Mac and Bill apologist, can give me their reasons on why we shouldn’t move on from the both of them.
And please for bill do not mention the 20 years of history & the Super Bowl wins. We are strictly talking about the 4 years post Brady, that any GM, Coach, and QB would’ve been gone !
You move on from BB if you have a plan, just firing him for the sake of doing it with no plan is ripe for disaster.
The plan would be to start fresh with a total rebuild. You don’t necessarily need to know who the GM/HC combo will be ahead of time. That’s determined in large part by the interview process, a point you can only get to if you fire Belichick first.
Who do you replace them with?
Is there some wonder GM out there, just waiting?
Is there some wonder coach out there?
Must be loads of QBs available too. Or let’s draft one, and chuck them in at the deep end
I agree we need a reboot, but I still think it’s best with BB and Mac at the helm
Let’s talk about this guy and potentially getting rid of him. but only the obvious bad times can be referenced.
That’s not how a discussion works.
You cannot look at Belichick in a vacuum of only the last 4 years. He clearly didn’t want Mac Jones and he was forced on bill. Ultimately if Kraft wants to pony up the money he can make that call. So why didn’t they keep Thuney or offer Meyers more?
End of day there is only one truth as to what’s happening. Because we’ve seen it happen over and over again. Landry. Knoll. Shula. Johnson. Parcells. Shanahan. Reeves. Seifert. Even Lombardi. Name any well regarded top coach and eventually when you look at the end of their career it’s shit. Cowher and Walsh are the only two that walked away on top. Walsh did so of his own accord. Cowher did so to care for his wife and kids and spend time with her before she died.
It almost always ends badly. This is going to end exactly the same.
So I want Bill gone but I feel like the argument for the other side is he has given us 20 good years and 6 rings.
I was never a Mac apologist. However, when our O line was the worst in the league and our WRs were equally as bad I did think he deserved the benefit of the doubt. I stand by that opinion, that is to say he deserved it at the time. There was literally no QB that could be effective at the time.
But that time has passed. He kept playing so apparently got that benefit. Our O line and WRs have improved. Still not very good, but notably better than they were. Saying Mac is still not effective is understating it. He’s playing terrible. He’s as bad as ever even though the team around him no longer is among the league worst.
I’m a keep Bill guy. Sure his roster management has been poor but this is probably a. 500 team or thereabouts if we hadn’t been hit so badly by the injury bug.
We have had some poor drafts lately but the 2023 one seems at this point to be pretty strong. Although it’s obviously way too early to tell.
I don’t blame him too much for Mac. The guy was the 5th QB taken. He’s terrible sure but getting a top QB without a high draft pick isn’t easy. And he reasonably gave him a few years to prove he was a real QB. He’ll probably try for QB again this draft or in FA. And it will either work or it won’t. But some things aren’t really in his control IMO. Mac being the guy left at 15 and seemingly being mentally weak happened but I don’t think are huge indictments on Bill’s roster building.
