I remember last season after the Kyle Anderson incident and Jaden McDaniels injury, people were calling for Gobert or KAT to be traded. But this season they seem to be on a roll, team chemistry and moral is at an all time high and everyone seems to be gelling well together. We have one of the best defenses in the league, and our offense got significantly better with people finding their fit. Is it too early to say that the Gobert trade was a success? What needs to happen for us to confidently say it was a success?
Kind of a vague question, but I hope it makes sense
Because it’s provocative to say it was a mistake and it gets people going
Now. It was DLo fault we never gelled last season and the year before. Rudy has stone hands but in defense he’s a generational talent. I don’t care about those draft picks; we have one of the best defenders in Rudy to pair with Michael Jordan. We’re going places.
We need 2 more firsts to fall outside the lottery or make a conference finals
It wasn’t a mistake. We just overpaid.
He can be a really good fit for our team and we can also overpay for him. It’s not one or the other. This season will definitely help get rid of the “worst trade of all time” narrative but either way we overpaid.
Get to the WCF at least. It’s not enough to just win one series. The trade was such an overpay that the wolves need to show they’re a true contender that can thrive in the playoffs. But if we’re a top 4 seed and win 1 round, at least the trade won’t go down as such an all-timer
This sub group would of rather had Walker Kessler than 3 time DPOY Rudy Gobert 🤣🤣🤣
If we had Kessler, Keyonte George, Vando, and Beasley, we would be a play in team again. We probably wouldn’t have made the play in last year.
I think it’s a pretty fair trade, but if we win a playoff series I would say it’s a damn good trade.
It’s not the bunk role players that we’re sweating. It’s the 4 picks. I’m living it up right now, but if we don’t get it done with Rudy then I’ll be lamenting the trade in a few years when Ant is in his prime and we have no assets to surround him with.
I mean Rudy after this year will have much more trade value. Everyone on ESPN is talking about how he looks better then his old self. KAT’s trade value is climbing like crazy right now.
We got pieces and we still have way more draft capital than a lot of teams hoping to make the Finals.
Also, K George is the first of the 4. He ain’t helping anyone let alone Ant and the Timberwolves.
I don’t know why people put so much value in picks. They more often than not are useless. We’ve been having lottery level picks since KG left us, multiple overall 1st round overall picks…where has that lead us?
Right now. They have shown it works
It’s a great question.
On the up side, Gobert is now playing like the wolves hoped he would when acquired.
On the downside, Kessler is looking like the next Gobert.
If we win one or two rings, the trade will have been a massive success, well worth it.
It’s worth noting we have no ability to undo the change. It’s a sunk cost. So I’m already ecstatic w the first 10 games, and am more excited for this season than any previously.
2004 was a wonderful season. But it was clear cassell and Spre were in their last legs. That team didn’t have championship potential.
Before the season, I made a list of significant improvements by individual players that the wolves would need to excel. The odds that all of these would happen seemed really unlikely. But they have:
-
Conley still having gas in the tank - looking very good, as long as they keep him fresh for playoffs
-
Ant continuing to grow as leader, in offensive efficiency, as rebounder and as off ball defender - looking amazing!
-
Rudy reverting the Utah Rudy - looking awsome
-
Most importantly and unlikely, KAT turning into a plus defender and doing whatever needed for team to succeed - he’s done an amazing job. I wonder if the humiliation following his podcast stupidity forced him to confront the reality of how poorly he has been realizing his potential.
-
I think it is still likely a bit of an overpay but not half as bad as we and many others once thought.
Make it to At Least the Conference Finals a couple of times (with a shot of winning a Championship.
Otherwise giving up good young players/draft picks for being a pretty good team is not worth it. Especially when you were already close to that level and have Ant becoming an All-NBA player in his lower 20s.Not after 10 games
