DeVante Adams, Derrick Henry, and Devonta Smith (first two are split, have Smith in both)
And no, certainly the D is not working out for me this year.

Ideally, we’re a contender in a couple of seasons.
Hahahaha
“but if we get 30+ Ws”
Hahahaha
“All you guys that were saying we were a play in team, help me out a bit will ya? Haven’t heard from ya in a bit, where’d ya go? What am I missing here that I should be hopeful for?”
A very disconnected bunch from reality, ha.
Kazekid’s question is really the most impactful for the fanbase, so I’d go with that.
Maybe to add:
Please remove, this has nothing to do with Portland.
“Chauncey calls a timeout after two bad looks on offense and subs in a lineup that had no chemistry and looked like wet newspaper on defense”
Whoa a Chauncey special!
“You don’t call a timeout and make a major substitution during a comeback run just to make a point about a couple bad offensive possessions”
The special is still a nice carryover!
“But an NBA coach should not be making decisions so obviously and predictably bad that a dumbass such as myself can see the outcome from a mile away”
He’s been doing it since year one!
“We had closed the gap to 99-93 when he made this sub then the jazz immediately went on a run to make it 111-93”
I can’t tell you the number of times that he’s done this since becoming a head coach. I’ve lost count. He’s literally lost the team (just like last night perhaps) games because of his inability to call timeouts and manage the game properly.
You’ve highlighted yet another example of his recurring problem that he’s still yet to fix.
I bet that the team would have easily won at least 5 and probably up to 10 games just last season had he knew how to call timeouts the second said-team gets hot after being down by as much as double digits…
It’s pitiful and infuriating to watch, especially when you know that any decent coach is going to do the right thing.
Although it’s only 9 games in, Portland ranks in either the worst or lowest in nearly every team offensive category…
Defense so far is meh.
Let’s re-convene after 30 games to have a better measure.
Stats are very representative of how a team does.
I have low expectations for the team this year.
Sometimes former players just don’t pan out as decent coaches…
Playing hard and winning/losing games doesn’t paint the whole picture. Nor does “communicating on defense “more””. It’s kind of like using the analogy that we should keep said player like CJ Elleby on the roster because he tries really hard… We get it, but the kid was never meant to be on the roster to begin with.
And I know that it’s early, but I don’t really get how the team’s overachieving. Thus far, Portland has beaten 3 bad teams - Detroit, Toronto, and Memphis. Games that the team should be winning due to the sheer young talent that the roster brings.
As for actual team stats so far:
Last in PPG, 2nd to last in FG%, 2nd to last in 3P%, middle in RPG, dead last in APG, 5th worst in TOPG, and middle of the road in DRTG / Opponent’s PPG
These are pretty bad stats 8 games in.
Buying in is one thing, but having a mediocre/bad coach is another. Of course the team’s going to buy-in - there’s nothing really to lose other than to build. Billups still exhibits his bad habits pretty regularly, which people have highlighted, along with myself, on here many times.
The question then becomes as to whether or not that he breaks these bad habits and actually improves on his coaching. And I’m not confident about that. Most would agree that he was a bad hire and still is a bad fit for the organization.
He’s the coach. And he has had a big list of terrible habits that needed to be improved on. These have been discussed in length.
Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs, And Davante Adams.
Do I have these dudes in two different leagues? Yes.
These posts are tiring…
Who freaking cares? The dude’s either going to suck or he’s going to be alright. 2 games in certainly isn’t a good sample size other than the fact that Billups continues to blow at coaching, and I’m sure that it affects the new guys even more.
Long answer?
No.
Billups is outright terrible.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - it’s a dumb position to even have to begin with. Yeah I get all of the “advanced” stats and stuff, but it’s more or less a reason to hire someone to provide entertainment, which is annoying to me.
Sure, casual fans who may not know much about the game will be like, “oh very interesting that Portland ranks 18th in shooting 47.38% from the field when they make more than 3 passes but less then 6 while also doing 1 pick and roll per 100 possessions this season!” when most fans are questioning why the hell this dude’s even hired to begin with…
Jez was cool and nerdy an all last year, but it’s silly and now Portland’s managed to make the spot even worse.
Disgusting.
Good luck trying to get a fanbase on Reddit to “chill out” (never happening).
But the reality is that the team’s level of basketball doesn’t meet expectations. It’s outright bad. And even as fans who support the team, when it’s this “bad”, then fans have every reason to react in the ways that they do.
Like I totally get that the team’s gonna be bad, but even with all of this talent, there’s an expectation to not suck so hard. There are going to be handfuls of winnable games that will be lost to due any contributing factors, which sucks because there’s always the “grass is greener on the other side” approach, but the reality is the team’s dealt with the hand that they’ve been given from the FO.
A lot of this has to do with Chauncey as coaching for at least another year or two and that’s unfortunately one of the tough pills to swallow as the fanbase gets to watch from afar.
Grant didn’t sign a massive contract to sit the bench. Not happening.
At the 3 however? I don’t know, not anytime soon though. Thybulle is too good of a defender.
But but but CJ Elleby hustled the hardest!
