it’s the opposite in China now - but in a polite and unspoken way. eg: people buying an ICE car right now are seen as making a huge mistake. like… why on earth do they want to pay 10x to 12x MORE for gas than for home charging. madness!
it’s a tiny car. i mean, it looks brilliant, but it’s way over-priced (from £31k) for such a small vehicle.
that cannot be presumed. remember that car gasoline production will go DOWN as demand drops (refineries will instead pivot to diesel, jet fuel, etc), so pump prices will likely remain high. prices might even soar as car gasoline loses economies of scale.
Volvo EX30 has great first reviews. seems like a solid choice. is the BYD Seal available in Aus yet? that would be a roomier option.
the Honda E is one of the slowest, most underpowered, most boring, most over-priced and all-round horrendous EVs ever made (check out the horrendous reviews: i see 2 stars from What Car; 2.5 stars from Parkers), so i’m not sure how you’ve made the leap to it being an “enthusiast”-type choice. it truly isn’t.
i4 is super cool. lovely choice
it already has two sub-$35k cars (ID3 & ID4), but it’s too busy trying to charge $50k to 60k for them!
it’s a skip containing two mouldy mattresses
went from Mercedes to Nio. my insurance went DOWN, despite the Nio (very similar sticker price) being larger and a loooooooooot faster.
a thumbs up from me for that good video.
BUT… humans are not logical, and so purchases are far from logical. eg: personally, i would get a bad feeling if i swapped my 8GB 2018 MBA for a brand-new Mac that also has 8GB. i just feel like the number should go up a bit. it’s silly, but that’s a factor for some people.
which country? and what kinda budget> more details are needed.
but my 2 cents for a tight budget is this:
buy right now = MG4 or BYD Atto 3 (UK/EU)
or wait a little while = Volvo EX30 (UK/EU)
I also tried a Zeekr 001 and mostly liked it. but it felt excessively heavy and was also a bit too long at 5 metres. I got a Nio ET5 instead. is the wagon version, the ET5T, for sale now in Sweden? if so, maybe give it a shot too.
we already have a clear timeline: Toyota has said (source: FT: https://www.ft.com/content/6224f235-568c-4e2f-8247-e7dacf0ef20c) that its SSBs will be produced “by 2027 or 2028”.
But - BUT! - that doesn’t mean the SSBs will be affordable enough or produced at a sufficiently large scale to go into its affordable cars in 2027/28. that level of affordability could take several more years beyond 2027.
OK America can quit buying EVs if they want, and decades later the streets will look like Cuba, filled with 50-year-old rusting Buicks lol
yikes! got the feeling Europe would be the priciest.
