Emmerson_BiggonsBtoSteam Deck@hardware.watch•SD turns back on after I turn it offEnglish1·2 years agoIf you have controllers connected in anyway they can cause the steam deck to turn on temporarily. But I’ve never heard of a steam deck refusing to go to sleep entirely.
The stable update to 3.5.5 included some driver updates that probably increased performance. They also changed a lot of stuff with the screen and colour management. What you’ve noticed was valves hard work over the past month or so come together in the best update in months.
TL;DR IMO buy the OLED.
Generally speaking all of the windows handhelds have MANY reliability issues, for some they work just fine and for many they barely work at all or have recurring issues that bog down the experience. Or you might even get really unlucky with defective models (a common issue with the ROG Ally).
So if you want something as refined as PC handhelds get, the steam deck is your best option. But if you want an alternative the Legion GO is currently the best of these deck competitors; it’s the only competition to have a better screen than the OLED deck in terms of colour accuracy anyway. It also has the same battery capacity, tho it will have much worse battery life than the steam deck (especially the OLED).
For me I would go with the OLED because of the many quality of life features that it has that simply don’t exist on alternatives yet, not to mention steam is being designed best for the steam deck. The OLED is also really inexpensive on the 512GB model, not to mention third party SSD’s can go up to 2tb, or for 1tb they can be cheaper than buying a 1tb model. I am a long term deck user so I am very biased, and I’m especially biased since I’ve never used any other PC handhelds. So take my words with a heap of salt.
Emmerson_BiggonsBtoSteam Deck@hardware.watch•Can I move my SD card from one steam deck to another?English1·2 years agoPlug and Play.
If you run Linux on your main PC you can even set it up so that you can play off the SD cards, but it’s a bit more fiddly and requires input to do so unlike the steam deck.
Did you try turning it on and off?
Emmerson_BiggonsBto Linux Gaming@level-up.zone•How is the current state of gaming in wayland?English1·2 years agoSo far the only issue I’ve had is running Rivals of Aether. But idk if that’s even a Wayland issue or not.
I just realized how much I don’t care. I’ll call it orange anyway even if it’s wrong.
Emmerson_BiggonsBtoSteam Deck@hardware.watch•My neighbor wants to sell me his Gen 1 500 GB Steam Deck (its in great shape) so he can get the OLED version. What is a fair price range?English1·2 years ago$500 CAD is what I’m selling mine for so I can get the OLED. I don’t know what’s fair but a new 512gb LCD deck is $550 CAD new and my deck is in perfect condition.
Emmerson_BiggonsBtoSteam Deck@hardware.watch•Me watching the LCD vs OLED discussionEnglish1·2 years agoMoronic diehards: The OLED/LCD IS ALL I NEED. THE ETCHED GLASS IS TERRIBLE/JUST FINE.
Sane people: I love the steam deck, just bought metro Exodus and plan on playing the whole series on my deck!
Fuck it we ball status
Emmerson_BiggonsBtoSteam Deck@hardware.watch•If you already have a Steam Deck, you don’t need the OLED Steam DeckEnglish1·2 years agoSomething you and others don’t understand why I want the new OLED. I want the same experience but I need a better screen and better battery life. This is something I’ve wanted since day one and this OLED model does everything I want it to with no compromise. I’m paying for exactly what I want, assuming all the reviews and coverage hasn’t been lying about the products features.
Emmerson_BiggonsBto Linux Gaming@level-up.zone•As a high-end Linux gamer, would you rather have a 7900XTX or 4090?English1·2 years agoFor free? Definitely a 4090, because the only problem with the 4090 is the price especially compared to the 7900xtx.
Emmerson_BiggonsBtoSteam Deck@hardware.watch•Got my Steam Deck yesterday pretty much as the OLED got announced 🙃 is it worth returning it and getting the OLED version?English1·2 years agoTo me this new steam deck is everything I’ve been wanting out of a steam deck so the switch is worth it. That OLED screen for me is more than worth it but the battery life as well is a massive change. Plus it’s a few percent faster thanks to the new ram and power efficiency and you got yourself a worthwhile upgrade.
It’s like getting a monitor, keyboard and mouse upgrade for your computer. It’s expensive as new parts but you get the same performance, it’s usually worth doing.
How did it ever get onto a stove top? I’ve cooked with my steam deck nearby but I’ve never had it anywhere near a stove top.
