  • DJ is obviously better. You’re nuts if you think DeVito is some revelation after 1 game against crappy Washington.

But lets be honest about DJ. Most of his production (statistically) comes against teams like Washington, Indy, Minnesota. He typically managed 2-3 games like this per year to prop his whole season up and is otherwise mediocre.

DeVito going off just shows how low the bar has been set for DJ. He gets praised and paid for doing things an undrafted rookie has shown he’s capable of.

  • The part that absolutely drives me crazy is it’s not like they’ve neglected the line, but no matter who it is, no one can get it right. 3 different GMs, 4 different coaches, and not a single one of them has made any difference. Reese, Gettleman, Schoen have all swung and missed on major OL acquisitions with top 10 picks and big free agent contracts (Ereck Flowers, Nate Solder/Will Hernandez, Evan Neal). Guys we draft in the mid-to-late rounds aren’t even passable backups. Even when they nailed a pick like Andrew Thomas, it’s still the worst line in the league. Any OL who suits up for the Giants is immediately bottom 5 at their position.

I don’t know how to fix it, but I don’t think the answer is continuing to dump premium draft picks into the abyss. Something has to change with coaching, starting with position coaches all the way up to the OC. QB plays a part as well. Eli was immobile late in his career and Jones has a horrible feel for the pressure.

  • It’s just the reality of the situation unfortunately. It’s easy for us fans to chalk this season up as an L and look forward to the future. I am still bought in on Daboll and I like what Schoen has been doing and to be honest no matter how bad this season gets I think the Giants have a bright outlook going forward.

For players it is entirely different. This game is their livelihood. Constantly putting up duds like this sucks for us to watch but for them it means less money at contract time. They have a very small window to play this game and make that money and wasting a year of their career on a shit show like the Giants has to be frustrating.

I am a little worried about the locker room imploding, because if Daboll loses the support of the locker room we are truly back to square one.

  • I like Hyatt, Robinson, and even Slayton a lot. They’re all great complementary players. I think having a true WR1 would benefit all of them a lot. Wan’Dale is a shifty slot player who can make plays with the ball in space. Hyatt is already a pretty scary deep threat and has the potential to be even better (he could develop into a WR1 but I wouldn’t bank on it). If you add a WR who consistently beats single coverage and commands double teams, it’d have a cascade effect that makes them very hard to defend. You’d have Hyatt on the other side keeping defenses honest because if they shade their safety to the other side he might burn then 40 yards. That would open space over the middle for Robinson to do what he does. That means more options for DJ (or whoever is at QB) to throw too, which takes pressure off the OL bc they don’t have to hold their blocks as long and defenses can’t blitz as aggressively.

We can def improve at QB, but don’t underestimate the impact a great WR will have on this team.

  • Oddly enough DJs contract puts us in a very good position. We know we will have DJ on our roster next season so we don’t have to be as desperate in the draft looking for a QB. If we miss out on Caleb Williams we could do something like take Marvin Harrison Jr. and then someone like Michael Penix/Bo Nix in the second or late first as an insurance policy against Jones. Or if they do take Williams/Maye, DJ can start the season if the OL is still a work in progress, and protect those guys from getting killed behind a crap OL for a year.
