I think it was probably because he was throwing interceptions, actually. Can’t move the ball? Not good, but at least you could give the punter and defense a chance and not set up the opposing offense inside your own 40.
Traded back… from #3 to #10… and doesn’t get even a second rounder this year for it… And reached for a WR in the first…
Y’all I think we found Bill’s reddit account.
I think at this point it’s a Steelers-esque situation. No in-season firings on the table. As far as after the season… I find it very unlikely since there are no better candidates immediately available, and Bill as a coach has actually been fairly good when you look at the film. As a general manager? Miserable evaluation of talent. We get maybe one serviceable player from every draft class and our first round picks bust every year like clockwork. If he is to be forced out, this would be why.
Also - where would he even go? He’s unlikely to want to leave because no team is going to have a HC vacancy that’s not also in a rebuild with no decent QB UNLESS the chargers finally axe their coach. That’s the one team I can see Bill taking the job for - and he’d absolutely love to stick it to Mahomes as often as he possibly can.
Side note: I really hope Achane heals up quickly he’s perhaps my favorite Fins player to watch. May he lead you to your regular early playoff exit.
Defense? I don’t think you change much. Good unit. Can keep elite teams to under 21, bad teams to under 10 if everyone’s healthy. Makes it easy.
Offense? I agree with you at QB. Mac is a backup at best.
TE I also agree. Pharaoh Brown looks GOOD though.
WR? You gotta keep Bourne and Douglas. They’re perfectly fine WR2 and 3s, even on a really good team. We could use a solid #1 guy with some height and/or speed. Could also use some depth for sure. If we had an AJ Brown/Rob Gronkowski type of threat who can go up and make holy crap catches against single coverage, meaning you effectively can’t play man to man with no help? That’d make things easier.
O Line? Need a big overhaul. Need to draft a tackle- and high. Need some help at guard too. Owenu and Brown and Andrews are good but that’s not enough depth.
RB? Mondre and Zeke are actually pretty fine. Upgrading at RB is a luxury thing we don’t really need to do yet.
If Brady was so good, why draft several other players before him? Why not take him with a first or second round pick?
And… no, I don’t expect a deep playoff run with 1 pick. Lets say we get the next Joe Burrow though. Are you gonna tell me with a QB that good that we couldn’t through the draft and FA assemble a team in a year or two that could make a run?
Okay so your logic is *checks notes*…
We don’t know what the team has in it after… 10 weeks? And we almost beat a few good teams? Remember all the times the Jets, especially lead by Fitzpatrick, would almost beat us but not quite? Were those Jets teams good… at all? Ditto for the Tyrod Taylor bills. And how about all the times Brady would go down to Miami and LOSE? Or even when he lost to Fitz up here and lost the bye to KC. Those Miami teams were anywhere from “eh” to “literally bottom 2 team in the league.” We know EXACTLY what this team is, and losing Gonzales and Judon for the season basically means we should’ve already been in hard reset mode.
And your follow up logic is that a top 5 draft pick won’t fix the team. Sure. What if I told you that we would pick top 5 in every single round in the draft and all of our draft picks would be more valuable?
You’d rather throw all our known, mediocre talent out on the field (Mac, Parker, etc.) and “see what they have” instead of giving starts to our probably-worse-but-unknown guys (Cunningham, Thornton, etc.) and losing more, therefore enabling us to get slightly better talent across there board for our rebuild?
“Zero points against a bad chargers D!!”
- Driving rain all game really hurt offense
- Mondre going down early was awful for the run game
- Herbert had no TDs and his WRs dropped tons of stuff, including Keenan Allen who last I checked was pretty good
- Zappe had worse field position all game, with drives starting inside the 10
“Zappe didn’t score” is a valid reason to say he has no future as an NFL starter. It does NOT mean he is better than Mac, who was shutout in non-rainstorm conditions against the saints, in a half against the Giants, and scored 3 against Dallas. Mac has been shutout more times this season than Zappe as a starter.
