Yep, they blew it honestly. Could have won by 20+ and they’d now be in the driver’s seat
The Cavs losing 8 points in the final minute to Detroit almost single handedly knocked them out. Up by 16, only won by 8.
Keep in mind this is the worst possible outcome for the NBA re: all the tiebreakers. Only two of the six possible teams clinched outright, and teams like Miami didn’t take care of business this weekend. I doubt this will be the norm going forward.
Overall, the tournament has been awesome solely because the teams give a sh*t and the basketball has been excellent almost across the board.
Won despite Mitchell, Mobley, and LeVert going a combined 12-for-41. Truly a Christmas miracle.
Brad Daugherty thinks a good strategy is to let shooters have wide open looks from 3. Good luck sir.
No problem. Knowing this, I watched for the ledge last night vs. LAL and it was VERY noticeable.
Look at the fans in courtside seats and you will notice that you can’t see their feet. It must be a several inch ledge, and yeah, that would be quite dangerous if you aren’t expecting it (like a visiting player).
On the Nate Duncan podcast they reported that apparently the issue is that there’s a several inch ledge once you leave the playing area, right under the courtside seats, so if you close out into that area, you could land awkwardly.
Apparently the Cleveland court is the only one in the NBA where this is the case.
8/22 yikes
This thread will go well
Stinks, because they traded Vezenkov for him.
Such a strange list given how elite Jason Campbell was.
So, two things come to mind:
He’s probably #1 on the list of “wings who play for the Cleveland Cavaliers” and I thought the premise of this post was about 'forward depth,’ and yet…
He’s still undersized to be that prototypical dude on the wing who can erase other primary perimeter threats. Given the shortness of Mitchell/DG, I think we really need a guy in the 6’6’’ - 6’9’’ range in this spot (your DFS take is spot on).
Also, I think OP is kinda implying that the Cavs could trade someone like CPJ or Jerome for Giddey, which is downright hilarious.
You need someone who can switch onto 1-3, and that’s not DWade.
Throw this one in the dumpster and move on (although our bigs need to be better vs. Haywood Highsmith and Thomas Bryant, let’s be real).
Meanwhile, Halliburton also played 40 minutes last night and tonight he’s still playing like he got shot out of a cannon.
Yeah, I wish he was a few inches taller, but then again, if he were 6’3’’ or 6’4’', he would have been drafted probably.
Well, yeah, it’s hard to find those players, but all the good teams have them so…
I think you see some frustration with Mobley at times because we kind of need him to take an offensive leap asap if we want the Cavs to truly contend. If we just want the 5 seed, then sure, his current rate of development will probably get the Cavs there.
The issue the Cavs are facing is the management of two separate, yet not mutually exclusive, timelines:
Mitchell (win now) - because this might be his last year and because of the price you paid to acquire him
DG and Mobley (and even Okoro) are still developing and have yet to hit even their pre-prime
This was the same issue that Minnesota was facing prior to this season with 1) Gobert+Kat win-now timeline and 2) ANT+McDaniels development timeline. Luckily for them, both Ant and McDaniels appear to be taking leaps this season, so it looks like they’re going to be able to merge their two timelines.
It was great to see some production but he’s still operating almost exclusively in the restricted area with dunks and layups. If he can stretch things out a little more, I agree he should get more touches.
CPJ never going to play again after that stretch, woof
