Real Laker fans that lived through the dark post-Kobe days aren’t freaking out, we’ve seen the bottom of the barrel.
AD leads the league in blocks and is also high up there for big man steals. But it’s not just the stats. The Lakers D with AD on the court vs off is insane. The man literally is the Lakers defense especially given all of our top POA defenders are injured
AD should win this time around
We are missing half our rotation. I’m happy with the effort so far. We can get this W tonight
Stop it
My Model F-104 is easily the best typing experience I’ve ever had on a keyboard. I’m faster, more accurate, and more comfortable. It’s basically the opposite of the switches you’re talking about.
There’s nothing “objective” about this at all
I wonder about that. With how much switching and ball rotations there are, I really don’t think individual matchups matter as much as people think. For example, D’Lo’s primary defensive assignment against Golden State was Andrew Wiggins or Klay Thompson, depnding on the GS lineup. Jarred Vanderbilt and Dennis Schroeder guarded Steph Curry. This isn’t a matter of “you have to match up with the other point guard”
And that’s where help defense comes in. The Lakers have a plethora of long, athletic wings that play good defense and can close out and rotate quickly. They also have the best paint defender in basketball. That’s the recipe for minimizing D’Lo’s defensive weaknesses.
I think what D’Lo brings offensively (there were several playoff games last year that we definitely don’t win without D’Lo) is absolutely worth the tradeoffs defensively. If he gives good effort, good scheming and lineup management can easily cover the rest
As I’ve said in other comments, we are not going out of our way to maximize D’Lo. Our roster and best lineups already do maximize him
You think Kyrie would be a defensive upgrade over D’Lo? That’s the hill you want to die on? Really?
Also. Let’s not pretend this roster as constructed would have existed if we traded for Kyrie. Kyrie was never, ever worth what the Nets were demanding from us.
I don’t think he needs sharpshooters. He needs good help defenders. He can create a lot of offense himself
Uh what? Why does this team “NEED” another strong interior defender? Who is going to beat us up in the middle? Jokic? There is no Jokic stopper. Embiid? No individual player stops him either (outside of the playoffs). Giannis? A physical interior defender doesn’t stop him, team defense does.
Gabe fills a need. People need to stop pretending like a backup center is going to make a larger difference than a POA defender at the 1. This is 2023, not the 90/
They would be one of the worst teams in the league
Which speaks to just how otherworldly Nikola Jokic is
I hate our current yellows. Bring back the gold from the 2000s Lakers
