  • Kelly definitely got paid the last few years to treat us like a shit tier organization. It’s okay, really when you recognize that.

Think about it: this guy writes an article about a trade between Houston and Indiana, there are 3 types of fans reading that: Houston fans, Indiana fans, and NBA fans. The latter two both love talking about dumb shit like this at the expense of a bad org. This will generate clicks because people will send their friends “Imagine Haliburton with Sengun bro”.

On the other hand, realistic trade scenarios for the Rockets would get 0 traction the past few years. For starters, we didn’t even really WANT to win, so our objectives in trades aren’t as simple as “lets improve our team with this trade so we can win more games”. There was always a balancing act for the trade to be good, and for it to benefit us long term.

And then secondly, our fans did not engage with Rockets articles. We’re not really a basketball city, so when the team is shit, so is engagement.

  • How do you get better at shooting a basketball? Or aiming in CSGO?

Okay seriously though, if you want to improve either of those things it’s not just repeated mechanics.

Shooting a basketball requries technique. Yeah, I can throw 10,000 shots at my rim with terrible form and eventually I’ll get better at knowing how to aim and with what power.

But I’m not going to become a better shooter of the basketball. To do that, I’ve got to take my mechanics, break them down, and see where I can improve. Maybe I can tweak my shooting elbow in an inch to stabilize my shot going where I aim it. Maybe I can adjust my overall shooting motion to get a more consistent shot off in a real game. It’s all kinds of things beyond “just keep shooting a basketball”.

Same with aiming in FPS games. You can keep flicking left and right, and you’ll get better at knowing when and where to stop; but if you really want to improve, you need to break down why you’re overshooting, or why your crosshair is moving off of headshot angle as you move from side to side.

  • I disagree w/ everybody here saying it’s KPJ vs FVV.

I think this is a REALLY simple change, and it’s one that McHale tried to get Dwight to buy into.

First of all, understand that we are spacing the floor better and giving AlP more room to work with. We’re cutting to the rim, giving him options, while still giving him enough air to operate.

After that, the key is just for AlP to play faster on the lower block. He doesn’t have to read anything, he just goes at his man and if the help comes, either kick it out or beat your man before it arrives.

I’m getting a little bit sick of this. Look, I do think that Silas was a horrible coach. I think he genuinely stunted development on a few of these kids.

I also think that genuinely great basketball players look GOOD even in bad systems. I’m not saying any of our guys should look like world beaters, but why do nearly all of them look BAD?

I’m not the kind of guy to be a doomer after one game, but I am the kind of guy to start holding our players resonsible this season. We brought in these vets to show them how to play the game like pros, hope we start to see it.
