How is it that Fields has had TEN fucking passes at or behind the line of scrimmage and they’re tearing us up yet we can’t execute a single screen?
Possibly. He backed out of contention for the Arizona HC gig to be the DC here.
He will certainly be in the conversation for HC opportunities, but I don’t think it’s a guarantee he leaves.
I agree that we need to invest in the trenches. Been pounding that drum for years.
Not sure that the top 5 QBs all go before us, but even if they do I wouldn’t be surprised if we took a shot on a guy still in the 1st or 2nd. Ewers, McCarthy, Daniels, Beck, Leonard… someone is going to be available.
Yikes. Anything less than a 3 year extension and I’d bet we’re taking QB round 1-2.
We’re sure as shit not drafting a RB early. That’s the least moneyball/ analytic thing you can do, and Kwesi has shown he’s not paying big money on a RB.
The pick should have been Davis or a short trade down and then McDuffie, Devonte Wyatt, Jermaine Johnson, etc.
Safety wasn’t a huge need and it’s not good value.
A man can dream.
For 2024 it’s actually probably a wash. Extending Cousins would only add like 10M to his cap hit. Which is roughly the same as what a guy like Dobbs will get.
Mullens/ Hall are both low level backups at QB, and not really much of a veteran presence.
Hard to win when you turn the ball over a bunch - see also our 1-4 start.
Nowhere in the post did I say we should trade JJ to keep Kirk.
I said that if we’re using the logic of we’re winning without Kirk so it’s ok to let him walk, the same could apply to JJ.
The difference is we actually would get trade/ draft assets for letting JJ go.
I don’t think we should trade JJ, just was calling out the irony of all the posts saying we don’t need Kirk.
At the same time, Hockenson was a known commodity and we gave up very significant draft capital AND cap space to get him ahead of a very strong TE class.
Reagor hasn’t done anything, Blacklock didn’t do anything, and we all saw the writing on the wall for Cook/ Kendricks/ Thielen etc.
Yes. Pretty easily. Right now we have roughly 52M cap space for 2024 and I think 160M for 2025.
Extending Hunter or Cousins would only increase their 2024 cap by maybe 10M ish each, depending on how their deals are structured. So that would leave roughly 30M before the draft class, so probably 22M for free agents. CD, JJ, and O’Neill are already on the books for 2024. Keep in mind we could pretty easily free up an extra 10-20M if we made some cuts. To put that in perspective I think we spent like 25M total this past offseason for free agents.
Deals are usually structured to go up over time, so even if JJ gets a mega extension, his 2025 cap hit probably won’t be over 25M. CD would be around 20M on his 5th year option. So for easy math, add in 25M for Hunter, and another 35M for Cousins, and you’re left with 55M in cap space for 2025. Plus you could free up another 18-22M if we cut/retire Smith and another 14M for O’Neill. Other guys like Ham, Oliver, Booth, Bradbury could all save a few million each if cut as well. Now that number obviously goes down with draft classes and free agents, but we absolutely can afford everyone if we want to.
IR. Earliest he could be activated is next week for the Broncos.
He’s on IR. Earliest he’d be eligible to come back is next week against the Broncos.
The OL still isn’t great in general. Hopefully we address it in some meaningful way in the offseason.
Praying we sign Robert Hunt or Connor Williams in free agency.
