  • +/- can be very misleading and if you watched the game you wouldn’t have posted this.

Did Tatum have a great scoring night? Absolutely no, he didn’t, but he scored 26 points on 16 attempts compared to Browns 18 on 22 attempts… You have wildly inverse numbers there.

Brown was also awful from the FT line, which he normally is.

He also had more turnovers than assists, Tatum while not great there tonight can’t say the same.

On the whole Tatum found ways to positively impact the game while Brown really didn’t.

We had 1 offense rebound among starters though after having only 2 against the Bucks… How that wasn’t an adjustment made is beyond me.

  • If you point this out during a win, you’re a nitpicker. If you point it out during a loss, you’re just being negative due to a loss.

Jaylen Brown has no business shooting 8 3s a night on a night that he isn’t hot. He should be at about 4-5 3s a night on average, assuming quality looks rather than his go to pull up jumper. Brown once again had more turnovers than assists on awful shooting.

Tatum was struggling to shoot the 3 and so he kept looking for ways to help the team and was getting to the line. For Jaylen, I’m not even sure getting to the line is worth it because he struggles from the line so much.

  • It’s not just timeouts, but that’s been an issue throughout his tenure as a head coach. He just doesn’t know when to call timeouts. That’s hard to argue against but go ahead.

NBA coaches call timeouts to break up the momentum of a run. Joe likes to have the team figure it out, and guess what they almost never do and he’ll eventually still call a timeout, but the run that was 10 points turns into 16 points.

NBA coaches call timeouts to figure out the last shot at the end of games. He doesn’t and it generally turns into a poor final shot by someone who shouldn’t be taking the final shot.

He put out shooters in the 4th quarter like Pritchard and Hauser. How many 3s did they put up in the 4th? No timeout to discuss making sure they’re getting the ball, getting good looks?

  • I think this is ridiculous.

I think most of us who criticize JB, criticize him for playing selfishly, we can cause us to lose.

And so him deciding not to play selfishly and having probably his best game of the season is an indictment on his critics?

He shot 16 times against the Bucks, only 5 from 3 and had 8 assists on just 1 turnover. Why because he didn’t force things and looked to be a playmaker, which is exactly what his critics have been on him about.

I’m pretty sure all celtics fans want the team to win and they want JB to be great and the potential is there, he can just be truly boneheaded sometimes. To compare his performance here against what he did in the last two games where he played iso ball or the quick 3 pointer, he was playing by himself, but people don’t want to acknowledge that.

  • I think people are too caught up with Jaylen’s results one way or another.

I’m not as concerned with his results as I am with his approach. He looks to score first every time he gets the ball it seems. Sometimes that is going to have good results and sometimes it is going to have bad results. Those good results are going to help us win games and those bad results are going to cost us games.

I just think with the amount of talent on this team, you shouldn’t be costing the team any games. Especially when you’re the #2 on the team. It’s one thing to have a bad shooting night, but it’s another to have turnovers, play poorly on defense, miss key passes, AND have a bad shooting night.

That’s not even to put Charlotte on Brown. Holiday played like trash as well. Hauser was a complete ghost.

I still think we need one more player between Horford and Hauser/Pritchard. Maybe an Alex Caruso-type player and a backup big who can do a bit more than Kornet.

They brought in Svi because they needed some threats on the perimeter, but it’s clear that the organization recognizes that we have a bench problem.

Kornet is playing well enough that maybe we could hold off on making a move for a big, but Hauser really struggled in the starting lineup. We don’t really have true 7th and 8th men. Al is great as a #6 but the fall-off there is too steep.

Hauser has been great off the bench but giving him additional responsibilities in the lineup kind of exposed him. He’s a rotational guy and if we have one starter might be okay, but having two out? That becomes a problem because Hauser isn’t good enough and our depth certainly isn’t good enough.

The bench needs to be able to consistently score ~30-35 points per game. We just don’t have that. It would be great if we could get 10-15 pts a game from Horford. But as it stands no one bench is going to drop 10 pts per game let alone 15 (think Hauser is at 9.5 right now).

The coaching staff is going to need to get really creative with lineups or we’re going to need to bring in new people to get more consistency out of the bench.

    • I hate to say it but the refs gave it to them when we played them
    • Similar to use, they’ve had a very cupcake schedule so far
    • Against better competition the lack of Kelly Oubre will unfortunately have a serious impact on them
    • Against the Pacers, their bench gave them nothing. Maxey doesn’t go 7/11 from 3, and they probably aren’t winning that game… He’s a good career 3pt shooter at about 41% but that’s 63% that’s not sustainable
    • They’re trending towards the top of the league in terms of home games played with 6 out of the 9 games played.

Late November they have @ Minnesota and @ OKC, @ New Orleans, and @ Boston and outside of that they have a pretty cake schedule until January.

Anyways, my point is that they’ll revert to the mean and so will the Bucks.

I think we have a lot of addition by subtraction.

My biggest regret is that we don’t have Grant Williams and we really need him, but he can’t be trusted in big moments and he was never going to start here. It would have been nice if we could have fit him in here.

He’s shooting really well right now, but he is also a really streaky player (hopefully consistent minutes cures him of that to some degree) but when his shots stop falling, I expect the Mavs to start struggling to win games against better competition (they’ve beaten 1 team that would be in the playoffs today).

I am worried about not having another option better than Kornet who shouldn’t see any playoff minutes, but I guess they’re okay with potentially going really small if it comes to it.

We’ll just need to be more consistent if we want to beat Embiid, Giannis, and Joker. Maybe Jrue can help slow them down.

  • I see both sides of this. I’ve certainly been one to criticize Brown at times.

I think him elevating his game as a playmaker would really elevate this team to another level. We’ve seen that with Tatum.

We want him to be aggressive, but he just needs to be a bit smarter about it. If he is running into 3 defenders, he’s got to be able to think we’ve got some wide open shots available.

The irony of things is that if Brown passed more he would probably see clearer lanes because people would have to respect the outside shooters more.
