Legitimately excited for the post game conference. Will any beat writer ask a question? Which player will we send out? My money’s on Umude, give him the reps

Darvin quick TO to stop that 2-0 run

This one right? I freaked out along with the crowd
Nah, he ended with “any other questions?” and waited a beat looking around. I highly doubt someone was sitting there with their hand raised and was ignored lol
Felt like the tension was just too much for them
Monty’s comments were fine, but how are there zero follow up questions? We have 3 full time beat writers, they feel no responsibility to represent the fans after that performance? The game was over with at least 10 minutes left, not enough time to come up with anything?
Unbelievable
No wonder Weaver gets so much hate, we think we can grab Markkanen for a bunch of bench pieces lmao. Why doesn’t Weaver just add an all star for a bunch of players I don’t want!
This season is what it is, hope to get healthy and see what you have with the young guys. My goal is to build around Cade/Ivey/Ausar/Duren, not in a rush to trade for the next star. We’ve been terrible, but to me the biggest issue has been our depth (injuries). It’s when we’re playing multiple of Hayes/Umude/Wiseman/Knox/etc that we’re getting crushed
I’ve seen enough to say that a Cade/Ivey backcourt will work, if they raise their 3% we’re a very tough team. Duren has shown enough that he’s the center of the future as a great complement to Cade and solid on defense. I love Ausar’s game - if he develops a serviceable shot he’s all-star level as a Marion/Kirilenko type, but even if he can never shoot I think he still works but a shooting wing is needed to pair with him
Next year we have Cade/Ivey/Bogey/Ausar/Duren/Sasser/Stewart/Bagley under contract. Resign Livers. Killian and Wiseman walk, who cares
I think an ideal FA next summer is someone to take Stewart’s spot in the starting lineup, like Tobias Harris. If not him, there’s Royce O’Neal, Taurean Prince, Miles Bridges. I’d also want a backup, big veteran center for when he’s needed due to fouls, injury or whatever (Plumlee type), a scoring guard/wing off the bench (Malik Beasley/Alec Burks type), and a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency vet PG (Delon Wright type). I don’t see any meaningful trades coming as I’m not moving any of the core 4 and we can’t trade a 1st for a while still
I’m not expecting to turn into a contender next year, but expecting growth from the young guys while adding vets that fit. I think no matter what we’re several years from contention with this core when they’re in their mid 20s. Hopeful rotation would look like:
Cade/Ivey/Ausar/Harris/Duren
Sasser/Beasley/Bogey/Livers/Stewart along with Bagley, Plumlee, Wright off the bench
Do I change my flair from Duren to Ausar? I love Ausar
Cade Ivey Ausar Duren. So much fun to watch
Losing sucks, and the losing streak is breaking people’s brains. I get it, and I’m probably not far away myself
But why all of a sudden is it viewed as some shock that we’ve been the worst team in the league since he came in? We started to transparently tank, which is what I and I feel like most fans wanted to do. We’ve made no big splashes beyond draft picks, unless you count signing Jerami Grant. We were probably the most egregious tanking team last year, and that was the plan for the Wemby draft. How did everyone forget that?
Weaver has been fine. If you think Kelly Oubre would’ve been the missing piece to make you happy this year, I won’t argue with you. If trading away rotation players in Saddiq, Bruce Brown, or Kennard was just too much for you, whatever. We have four young guys who have more value than anyone on the roster Weaver inherited - one of which was traded for, another was the opposite of a consensus pick, and the #1 pick which required losing on purpose
Can we stop having a meltdown every day? Half of us won’t even acknowledge that injuries are playing a huge role, as if missing 2 starters and playing guys signed off the street and two-way players big minutes shouldn’t matter. I just want to make it to Christmas with Duren, Bogey, Livers, and Burks consistently in the lineup to see what the team looks like, is that too much to ask? What’s a new GM going to do, probably draft worse and maybe overpay a Cam Johnson level player?
Once you’ve figured out a way of being able to reliably predict which players are on track to hit their potential and which aren’t, you’ll be the best GM in the league
I’ve been surprised how many seem to disagree with even the philosophy of benching players for mistakes/bad decisions/etc. We’ve just gone through a couple seasons of letting everyone “play through it” while actively tanking. At some point every player should be benched for consistent mistakes, especially if it’s something specifically being coached. Playing through it forever will just lead to bad habits that won’t go away. I’m positive being benched will stick in a player’s mind more than being told in a timeout “quit doing that” while they do it again and again without consequence
I haven’t been a fan of everything going on so far this season, but am completely fine with benching a young player with the intention of teaching lessons. Ivey playing 20 mins or Ausar getting benched for a game aren’t the end of the world for their development and won’t end up as “missed experience” that plays a factor long-term. Getting benched is quite literally an experience gained. Cade missing a year or Duren never having a healthy ankle is what will kill us
I can appreciate some positivity. The losing is tough but I’m enjoying watching the young guys
I know if “ifs and buts”… but we’re not far off from several more wins. Last second Cade 3 vs the Heat, shitting our pants vs the Blazers, and a flipped call vs the Bucks away from 5-7 after a tough schedule without being close to healthy. I’m a huge homer, but I think getting a bit healthier makes us a tough team most nights
I think this guy should be the GM
Sure looks like it. Now he just needs to learn to throw himself into defenders and do the head whiplash thing and he’ll be a complete offensive threat
I’ve been feeling like the Bojan/Morris injuries are being overplayed in order to give the young guys a stretch to prove they deserve minutes, and give Monty time to see what he’s got. The starting lineup has looked great on defense, but I’m sure we’ll have some ugly looking games where no ones shot is falling
I agree with you that Bojan won’t start, don’t see how you can take Ausar out so it’ll probably be Killian not starting if anyone. I do want to see Morris starting to give Cade an actual shooting threat. Hopefully Ivey just shows he can defend and we roll with Ivey/Cade/Ausar/Stew/Duren
This feels like it was going to be Killian’s last month to prove he deserves playing time, and I think he’s earning it so far. After the last couple of years, it’s nice we have real competition for playing time where an NBA caliber player will not play. Our DNPs will start looking like Sasser, Livers, Harris, Wiseman, which could’ve been a starting lineup last year
Had to drink to make it through the game last night, made it humorous instead of sad
Killian’s slick looking handles are so funny when you already know that he has no intention of trying to get anywhere or even glancing at the rim. AD could guard him 10 feet off in the paint and it made no difference to how he played
