Get Cade an legitimate trainer who will make sure he’s actually in shape before the season starts.

I’m not say against it but dude balled out all summer long against elite competition. If he’s outta shape what happened between playing for the summer team where he was dominating and Kerr was praising him and the start of the season?? That’s not that much time.

He doesn’t want to be here? Already networked with other guys ? Always high while playing for us , not much of a leader or clutch gene; he’s tryna bounce to a contender to be a third option to thrive

Trade Hayes and Wiseman. Burks and Bogs. Try to package most you can for a “star” with any combo of those 4 and picks. Get a vet or two. That’s where I start

Convince Tom Gores to sell the team or never, ever exert any influence on roster or coach decisions ever again.

Fire Monty Williams. He said he didn’t want to coach this year and it shows. His wife needs him. Come to an amenable arrangement, have Casey step in for the remainder of the season.

Not much you can do with the roster. Weaver left the draft pick cupboard barren. Use the season to figure out if Ivey is Cade’s sidekick or not. If not, trade him in the summer.

This team is sort of locked in unless you want to start shipping off the young guys. I wouldn’t be interested in moving Cade, Ausar or Duren right now. Anyone else can go if the deal improves Detroit.

I’d also cut James Wiseman immediately. He is a walking crime against basketball.

First step is call NY to get the rights to our pick back. See if Burks + Bogey will get it done. this season is a wash and we need the rights to our future picks. Cade, Ivey, Ausar, Duren is the core. Gotta be ready to overpay for the right star when he gets unhappy and requests a trade

The optimistic part of me says if Bogey gets healthy and has a good few months, he gets it done at the deadline. Knicks could really use a 4 who can space reliably in the playoffs, as Randle has been so up and down. And I’m not sure what value that pick has since at this point, it’s trending towards just being 2 2nds or BEST case, maybe the 10th pick in 2027. I think minimum Bogey+Burks or Monte get it done at the deadline for sure

My only critique is that there’s a hard 0% chance OG signs here. What we need to do is use our cap space to facilitate a S&T to land talent.

For example, say Boston/Minnesota flame out and KAT or Jaylen Brown are available. You’d simply S&T both Siakam and OG to land one of those guys and ship them to where they can compete for a title and actually want to play.

I know this isn’t the point of the post/your comment. But in regards to the internal growth mention. Do you see any of our young pieces as “untouchable?” Also, are there any young guys that you aren’t necessarily untouchable, but you’d really hope to hold on to?

This probably blows up in my face but:

    • Negotiate a buyout with Monty Williams and target Chris Quinn from the Spoelstra/Riley tree to coach this team.
    • Offer Chicago extreme tankathon by sending Killian and Wiseman to the Bulls for Lonzo knowing he’s never suiting up here and we’ll get the disabled players exception for $10.2m
    • Offer Stewart and Bogie to Boston for Porzingis giving me a for < 30 year old stretch 4 FC who can play alongside Duren and create his own shot
    • Make a decent FA offer to OG Anunoby
    • Offer the Warriors Alec Burks + lottery protected future 1st for Kuminga and Moody
    • And this one is going to get me close to fired as a GM immediately - offer Joe Harris + Bagley + a future top 5 protected to New Orleans for Brandon Ingram
    • If that didn’t, this will: Offer Killian and Wiseman

I don’t know man, I probably just made a bigger mess but it goes to show how FUBAR this team is.

I’d try and make a move at the deadline for Jerami Grant. People will laugh, but he’s on a 5 year deal for 160 that they only offered him to entice Dame to stay. He was also only sold for a 2025 Milwaukee first two year ago, so he can’t be that expensive. Giving them Harris/Killian and some seconds probably gets it done.

Trade away Bojan for 2nds or maybe package Bojan and some 2nds to the Knicks to get our heavily protected first back.

Assuming we make the move for Jerami at the deadline, we’ll probably have a top 5 pick and only 50 mill in cap space as opposed to 81.

I’d use that 50 to sign and trade Siakam and Gary Trent to the TWolves for KAT.

Use the pick to take BPA or trade it for another young veteran.

    Cade/Ivey/Ausar/Grant/KAT

with top 5 pick/Duren/Stew/Sasser/Livers off the bench. To me, this is how you’d use our resources this off-season to acquire top talent (through trades, not FA signings) to a team like Detroit.

This season is what it is, hope to get healthy and see what you have with the young guys. My goal is to build around Cade/Ivey/Ausar/Duren, not in a rush to trade for the next star. We’ve been terrible, but to me the biggest issue has been our depth (injuries). It’s when we’re playing multiple of Hayes/Umude/Wiseman/Knox/etc that we’re getting crushed

I’ve seen enough to say that a Cade/Ivey backcourt will work, if they raise their 3% we’re a very tough team. Duren has shown enough that he’s the center of the future as a great complement to Cade and solid on defense. I love Ausar’s game - if he develops a serviceable shot he’s all-star level as a Marion/Kirilenko type, but even if he can never shoot I think he still works but a shooting wing is needed to pair with him

Next year we have Cade/Ivey/Bogey/Ausar/Duren/Sasser/Stewart/Bagley under contract. Resign Livers. Killian and Wiseman walk, who cares

I think an ideal FA next summer is someone to take Stewart’s spot in the starting lineup, like Tobias Harris. If not him, there’s Royce O’Neal, Taurean Prince, Miles Bridges. I’d also want a backup, big veteran center for when he’s needed due to fouls, injury or whatever (Plumlee type), a scoring guard/wing off the bench (Malik Beasley/Alec Burks type), and a break-glass-in-case-of-emergency vet PG (Delon Wright type). I don’t see any meaningful trades coming as I’m not moving any of the core 4 and we can’t trade a 1st for a while still

I’m not expecting to turn into a contender next year, but expecting growth from the young guys while adding vets that fit. I think no matter what we’re several years from contention with this core when they’re in their mid 20s. Hopeful rotation would look like:

    Cade/Ivey/Ausar/Harris/Duren

Sasser/Beasley/Bogey/Livers/Stewart along with Bagley, Plumlee, Wright off the bench

Shit my pants because I’m an amateur with zero profession basketball experience. I sit around in my office hoping no one asks me anything and no decisions need to be made.

I hope that I clear at least 2 paychecks before I’m found out. The only time I engage is to awkwardly stan the players during practices, hoping everyone is just reading me as having a stoic confidence instead of a man whos afraid to walk because of how my adult diaper is affecting my stride.

In my 2k sim, it’s all about taking over after an awful start for a fired troy weaver. I then do fire sale, clear cap space, do a complete tank, get two high picks, then overpay to sign tobias (stretch 4) and monk (shooter). These seem like fairly realistic once you assume the big overpay. Throw in gordon hayward, jevon carter and plumlee and now we cookin with gas. My 2025 sim dominates. I fucked shit up in just 1 offseason while shortbus weaver couldnt do it in 4. Gores, if you’re listening, let’s talk.

Imma ride out the season and see if Monty could actually do something with them.

If not, I’m firing the coach.

Ivey, Duren, Cade, and Beef Stew are a great young core, but the Pistons need a good back-up point guard.

They need to move on from Killian.
