I did the calculation and it was too depressing as an EV would never make sense. So I just bought as a treat for myself.

“One of the ways, Chauhan said is by allowing the vehicle to run for five minutes before driving to allow the engine to heat up”
Can you really do this with an EV?
I am not saying Tesla is a good company at all, that’s besides the point. Like I said, Volvo is not exactly building EVs in Sweden either. My point is that does that benefit auto workers by missing out on the jobs? No, I don’t understand the Swedish market at all, which is why I am asking. How many cars are you building and exporting these days? More importantly, I think we can all agree that ICE is a shrinking market with EVs growing up fast. How many EVs are you building? In the mean time, your consumers don’t seem to give a shit either as they are buying a lot of Model Ys, which are not made by your workers. Are you saying that’s good for your auto workers?
Imaging being against companies providing local jobs. How many UAW jobs are left? It had 1.5 million members in 1979, now well below 400K. After being a cash cow for western automakers for years, China is pumping out EVs by the boat load. Even with protectionism policies, which can be a double edged sword, the biggest auto market in the world would still be slipping away. Aren’t you guys worried?
Well, Musk apparently thought it was in his best interest to have their giga factories in the US and China instead of Sweden. Even Volvo and Polestar are making their EVs in China and Belgium, not that Volvo is a Swedish company anymore. Aren’t workers concerned?
Do workers actually believe driving away companies is in their best interests?
I am paying 2.4 cents per kwh (before all the delivery crap they add on) from 11pm to 7am in Ontario. In exchange, I pay a higher rate from 4pm to 9pm and also slightly higher rate for rest of weekdays. I mean it’s nice that we got that, but I suspect it’s more or less a wash since utilities add so much crap on top. Would be nice if my car supported V2L, but alias it doesn’t.
I think smart meters are required for time of day billing. However, they are rather common in Ontario so I didn’t have to do anything special to get the rate.
Absolutely not. Plus “cars” are only a small part of vehicles. There are tons of loopholes just like the emission standards.
To me, the real issue is the lack of independent mechanic options. We need independent shops who knows how to fix batteries, which assuming they are similar to laptop batteries don’t have to be expensive.
