And the sooner Monty realizes this, the better off we’ll be. I don’t care about injuries, Beef Stew at the 5 has lost us idk how many games going back to last year, he should never be put in that position unless the other team has went super small. His high motor doesn’t make up for his lack of height, and 15in vertical. It’s instant layup lines for the other team, or offensive rebounds if they miraculously miss.
Leaving Bags on the bench for the last 9 minutes was so insane, you’d think Monty forgot about him.
We’re watching a man coach like someone who wanted to take a year off…
Leaving rusty Livers and non-shooter Ausar in after taking a timeout when they needed to score down the stretch was also terrible.
I don’t get it cuz I remember him as a serviceable rim protector his rookie year even without getting blocks.
There will never be another “Big” like Big Ben
if Stewart can become a moving shooter
it would be much easier for him.
But he is a very ground-bound 4, a stretch 4 is his ceiling.
His rolling does not provide enough threat
good horizontal defender, but not vertical. sadly the team is lack of vertical defender
I mean… he’s bigger than Ben Wallace. Ben Wallace helped slow down Shaq.
This isn’t the 90s and 80s. Teams are playing a big center AND power forward like they used to.
Hakeem and Sampson or Hakeem and Thorpe.
Ewing and Oakley.
Robinson and Rodman or later Dunan.
Eaton and Malone.
There’s usually one big out there, and sometimes not even that.
Beef stew CAN play center and power forward (we’ve seen him do it for several years). And he might be be ideal in every match-up, but with the way he is shooting threes, it’s great to have him as a stretch 4.
Besides, it’s not like Monty is playing Beef Stew there as a first option: Duren is injured.
Stew is not the reason we lost last night if that’s what is being implied. He’s also a great defender at his size/strength, with a 7’4" wingspan, 29 inch standing vert, and 35 inch max vertical. This whole narrative of him being short and unathletic is ridiculous.
I would much rather have him at the 4 than the 5, but he does fill in fine at the 5 when called on.
I think he is a big, but the important thing missing is that heh is a BACKUP Big. He can play 4 or 5 depending on the situation and matchup. If we were 100% healthy I think our best (still shitty) rotation would be:
Cade, Ivey, AT, Bogi, Duren
+Monte, Sasser or Burks (trade him), Livers, Stew, Bagley
OP doesn’t care about injuries though, so…
