As a non-conic reader, I’m shocked that Mark beat a fully realized Viltrimite by himself. He’s either gotten a lot stronger since season 1, or he was going up against a compartively weak Viltrimite. I think it might be the latter since the first guy absolutely ANNHILATED him early on. He was straight up about to kill him with one finger.
Speaking of which, hoooooly shit the Viltrimites are intimidating as villains. I love how their sheer destructive force and atrocities are never held back. They really feel mercilous in a way that other villains of their type just don’t. You really feel like Mark and Nolan could die any second fighting these guys.
35 mins in and I kinda don’t like how they did the Thraxa arc tbh. They cut so many great interactions and moments I thought was important for Mark’s development in the comics.
Haven’t read the comics but I will say things feel very rushed to me in these last two episodes. I did feel like there was more and now it seems like there really was.
can you tell us like one or two really good moments and interactions without spoilers if possible?
Yo that fight scene had me hyped, especially when Mark started turning up!
This ep reminded me of this
“No more saying cuss words guy!”And he is fucking INVINCLE right
The music in this show is sick, I’m getting put on almost every episode
I’m a show only watcher and I’m loving the little clues everywhere.
There’s a clue on how to beat Viltrumites in his books. I guarantee it.
It looked like Nolan was about to actually kill himself using the black hole or whatever it was until he saw the alien ship almost crashing.
I love how sophisticated Nolan is, he still has a viltrumite mindset but after his time on earth he has also gained a bit of a human mindset and the two are clashing with eachother.
Few points:
-Here we get to see the Korean wedding ducks again but not wrapped up together and facing away from each other. Very obvious symbolism of how Debbie’s trying to untangle her life from her memories of Nolan.
-Freaking love the Mauler Twins. Just like Dr. Doom is almooooost a hero but just too arrogant and Mauler are almooooost wise-cracking anti-heroes but just too dickish. Can’t stop smiling whenever they’re on screen.
-Was watching it with my teen son and asked him “so…was this what you expected to happen?” and how emphatically he was shaking his head while saying “no!” brought joy to my heart. Great change of pace for a kid who grew up on Marvel. With things like “Will Eve save the people in the car?” you just don’t know what will happen next when with a lot of media it’d be a given.
See y’all in June when the last 4 episodes come out
OK, cant resist the urge anymore. What part do I start reading at to continue the story?
What a gorgeous pair of sequences illustrating Nolan and Debbie’s feeling lost and wandering (separated in distance and length of wandering by millions of miles and they still tied the two together nicely especially Nolan’s)
The show has really taken a step forward this year. And of course most tv shows find more solid footing story-telling wise and character-wise in their second season (not all - most)
But with a show as high quality as Invincible? That’s a difficult task and they’ve done it marvelously.
And adding to previous comments in other episodes I’ve made / the murderers row casting continues. Rhea fucking Seehorn? Goddamn
THAT FIGHT WAS EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED!!!
I thought it was a fantastic episdoe but I wish it just focused on the Thraxian planet and the viltrume fight. I wanted to see the fight scenes more animated and Lucan getting demolished off screen. I understand they were doing a nod to the comics with the panel flip but it just felt like budget cuts in anime(like that full metal alchemist scene). I wanted to see the entire fight animated you know?
Nah, I don’t buy the fact that Mark is crazy strong but he is holding back. You wanna make me believe that homie got destroyed in all those fight 'cuz he was holding back his punches. I can get 1 or 2 battles, but everytime?
And even so, that viltrumite woman looks over mid age, in viltrumite terms how old she could be? Like 3000 years? she doesn’t have any battle experience that can help her against mark, even if stronger?
But crazy good episode, anyway. I just wanted to point this only -personal- flaw, because the rest was perfect.
Appreciate how well Debbie’s arc is being handled
