I was only 7 when Aaron took over, so I don’t remember watching him play that season. I’m sure you’ve all seen the stat comparisons this week with Jordan and Aaron almost identical through 11 games as the full time starter. But I’ve heard over and over that people could tell right away that Aaron had “it” and that Jordan has looked bad. There has been some more positivity after the last couple weeks, but still a lot of skepticism about Jordan and his potential.

Given all that, what was Aaron doing differently that made him look so much more impressive to the fans?

Aaron Rodgers through the ball to Veterans, Love throwing to a bunch of Rookies! Just hope he doesn’t turn into a Daniel Jones 2.0

The biggest difference is that 12 was throwing to vets and wasn’t surrounded by the youngest team in the league. GB has always been a draft and develop team, they just don’t usually have a whole team of 1st and 2nd year players.

Yep. 2007 Packers were 13-3, and if anything the packers should have won 9 or 10 games a year later. Lost a lot of 1 score games along with overtime games. 6-10 was not a very accurate record for the 2008 packers.

    bennyu22,

I believe both Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love are having good years for it being their first season as a full time starter. What we have to remember is that Rodgers had a super bowl ready roster around him. Love has a young developing roster around him.

But also you have to think about 2008 vs 2023. Qb stats on average are better in the current nfl than they were in 2008. For Rodgers to have a 93 passer rating in 2008 is a very good stat.

My goals for Love is to have a passer rating above 90 and to have 25 or more passing tds before the season is over. I believe Love is our future but 2008 Rodgers definitely had the edge over current day Jordan Love. Yes, Rodgers also had a better roster.

Hope the weekend is going well,

His rookie year, it wasn’t clear he was on the trajectory of being an MVP caliber player. But he showed he belonged. The thing I remember most about Rodgers’s first year or two was he took a ton of sacks. Dude held onto the ball and was incredibly hesitant to throw the ball. It was frustrating as hell. He also had a rep for being injury prone. Obviously, those two things didn’t end up being an issue. But it wasn’t perfect to start out.

I think the thing Rodgers did 100x better was his ability to hit every single throw at every level, even early on he was pinpoint short, deep, and intermediate. Love’s accuracy isn’t there yet. But his accuracy issues stem from his footwork and drop, not his arm. That means they’re mostly correctable, as we’ve seen it start to improve. I think love can be special, but it’s going to take longer than Rodgers, and likely but get to the level.

It’s hard to remember the exact flow of things all these years later, but what I do remember standing out, after all the years of Favre, was that Rodgers wasn’t throwing interceptions all over the damn place.

Aaron put the ball where it was supposed to be on his throws since the beginning. Jordan Love’s completions have been ugly. Even on the short and intermediate routes, his accuracy really makes the receivers have to work for it. Even the first game, Love’s throws looked ugly and i thought they only won because of Aaron Jones.

And maybe I’m just so used to watching Rodgers, but a lot of Love’s passes seem to float or just lack velocity. There were a few throws I was surprised weren’t intercepted because they were in the air so long.

The last few games Love’s short/mid game has improved and looked more the part, but his deep throws are still very ugly. But I’m more hopefully now than I was four weeks ago and think there’s a chance he could be the guy. But I’m still doubtful the deep ball accuracy will ever be there.

I think that part of the reason love just flat out looks off… is that he is taller and lankier than Rodgers. It makes everything he does look a little jankie and herky-jerky. Am I alone in this thought?

Personally, I see more Brett Favre in Love than I do Aaron Rodgers minus his release. Aaron’s main goal was to limit turnovers as much as possible. Whether that meant taking a sack or throwing it away. Love kind of has that Gunslinger mentality where there is always a play to be made, just can be a little reckless. Kind of like Josh Allen

Most of it is bullshit that people pull out of their ass because they simply don’t remember that Rodgers made dumb mistakes just as Love is making.

Also, the team Rodgers inherited went to the NFCCG the year prior.

I’d say more similar than people realize.

Rodgers had better stats relatively speaking. But it was also somewhat inconsistent. He had some big games and bad games.

Rodgers probably had more arm talent. He made some wow throws, particularly deep, that we haven’t seen as much of from Love.

The knock on Rodgers though was that he didn’t have the “it” factor that Favre had. He wasn’t seen as a gamer. A lot of his stats were viewed as empty calories as they came once the game was already lost.

Basically, everybody judged him based on how he wasn’t Favre, instead of valuing him for what he was. Much like people are doing to Love now.

But yeah, Rodgers did look really good his first year. But anybody saying everybody saw it and believed in him is lying through their teeth. Most fans thought the packers made a huge mistake moving off Favre and that Rodgers would never live up to him.

A strong deep ball and they ability to create with his feet and move outside the pocket. Off schedule. No problem. Step into the pocket, easy. Dude was a freak.
