i’m not here to be doom and gloom and demand trades after a loss, but more so optimistic that this team can be really really really good with just a decent back up big man and a PJ Washington like wing. I actually think we have the assets to pull it off and have faith in Nico. anyways, main text?
We trade THJ all day, and here’s why.
I posted this as a response, but I think it serves a top level comment along with some qualifications. Hardy can give us everything THJ gives us and more right now. No way you say?
Per 36 stats
Player Pts 3P% REB AST THJ 22.5 .405 4.2 1.7 Hardy 21.8 .350 4.3 3.8 But those are projected from low minutes…
In the 13 games he played 20+ minutes last year he averaged 19.5 PPG shooting 40% from 3 on 6 3PA per game, so the projections based on minutes b=pan out (though some of those higher minute games were a tanking scenario). The and more I referred to is playmaking. Hardy isn’t a great playmaker, but THJ is a black hole who’s near guaranteed to shoot it every touch.
So given the above…we also need to consider consider THJ has a much larger contract which should net a more developed player. Realistically, no team is going to trade us a player on his rookie salary far outplaying their contract. So a Hardy trade is likely a loosing trade from the start as the packages offered will center around a low dollar scrub and 2nd round picks.
The board will evaluate the players in the next games. Tim is playin great rn, Hardy is good & this is just his 2nd year, Green is not what everybody hoped for so far
I think if some teams blow up their rosters at the deadline (bulls, blazers…) or some good defensive players are available i can see us trying to make a move or two & one or both of Josh/Tim will definitely be on the table
Tim not even close
ESPECIALLY right now while his value is at an all time high
Makes no sense to choose him over Hardy, Hardy is clearly gonna pan out he just needs more minutes, Tim is actively taking those minutes away
Not only that, THJ’s higher salary provides the potential for getting a more developed player back who can contribute immediately. Hardy on a rookie deal is only going to return a player on a similar deal and no team is going to give back a rookie that’s far outplaying their contract.
All I know is that we need to go after Caruso or Vooch when the Bulls inevitably blow up that squad. Hardy would be an attractive piece in that trade because he’s young and has a ton of upside for a team starting a rebuild.
Has Kleber’s case not taught anybody anything?
If you have an over-30 vet that you’ve already had some doubts about, but who is suddenly having a good season, that’s the time to trade him while the value is still high, especially if you have a younger replacement already waiting in the wings.
The only counter would be if the Mavs were a legit contender and you don’t want to upset the apple cart, but this simply doesn’t apply here.
That being said, I think THJ doesn’t get traded until next year/offseason.
I would consider trading anyone outside of Luka, Derrick Lively, and Grant Williams.
It would all depend on the return and THJ is balling right now. I wouldn’t just give him away as salary filler.
Just tangentially related but I don’t think we appreciate enough how Maxi’s injury has impacted his game. An upward progression from 2020 Maxi w/o injuries and this team would be more than just marginally better. Just my 2c
