  • I knew it was bad because before philly’s final drive in regulation, I found myself asking nobody if we could finally get lucky. Can we just get a random fumble? Tipped pass? Anything? Nope, as we shouldn’t, because luck isn’t a winning strategy.

The irony is they actually held somewhat stiff - you’ll take forcing a 59 yarder into the swirling wind and rain. But it just doesn’t matter. It never does.

  • Expectations are everything…

It wasn’t that long ago that “in the hunt” going into December provided excitement about the idea of finally making the playoffs again.

It’s much easier to stay positive when expectations are low and the team seems to be punching above it’s weight class.

I’ll never throw shade at a fan for being a fan, but it’s hard to not be jaded about this coaching staff and many parts of the team itself, given what was expected of them now.

  • For the longest time I argued the “fire McDermott” rhetoric was reactionary to the fallout of 13 seconds. But it’s undeniable at this point. The culture dug them out of the drought, but it’s become poisoned. It’s synonymous with heartbreak, bound to repeat itself. Whether it truly is scheme and a stubborn-ness to change, or if heartbreak has simply bashed these players in the head one too many times, or both - the end result is the same. Something has to change.

In a way, it’s almost a good thing they lost to the Jets and Pats. You win those games, this is business as usual with enough wins to still limp into the playoffs and watch the cycle continue. Those losses broke the mold, and now we’re seeing the bottom fall out. It’s gonna suck watching Miami dance for the rest of the regular season while we likely miss the playoffs, but I think it’s necessary for the long run.

  • It’s one game, but man did it feel different with Brady calling plays. MEANINGFUL motion and misdirection, actual thoughtful schematics of RBs in the pass game, emphasis on taking what’s available, a real commitment to the run.

Both TDs to the RBs were great play calls. Not just great times to call them, the play concepts were savvy. Shanahan ran to the same play for a McCaffery TD that Brady called for Cook. Johnson’s TD was a mix of great timing and concept as well….it’s fun having someone with a brain calling plays. Missed that.

  • That doesn’t really change anything. Beane is doing his job better than McDermott. Some problems of this team do stem from roster construction, but none of those instances are fireable offenses. He has largely done well. Firing McDermott will come from the top (pegula) anyways. I don’t believe, even if he had the authority, that Beane would fire McD anyways. It always would’ve came from Pegula, regardless if the chain of command is linear or not.

  • No shot they’re a package deal. “McBeane” was coined in terms of the turnaround and instilling competence back in the building, straightening out dysfunction, and adding talent. That all happened.

McD’s biggest knock, and likely his downfall in the near future, is in game coaching. Beane doesn’t have any control over that. Beane has done his job very well, albeit with a few questionable signings/draft picks lately. But you don’t get fired for a couple questionable moves when you engineered a turnaround this large. He’ll get at least one more HC to work with.

  • The idea that a first year head coach would “want” to struggle at first is hilarious to me. This isn’t Madden. There’s no restart button if the seat gets too hot, too fast. This is their life and career in a business that is as cut throat as it is difficult.

Of course they’d want to work with Allen. He’s not even that old. This will be the best roster any new HC will have to work with. Hit the ground running, stay running.
