Ratner (the owner of the franchise) didn’t even know the game had 4 quarters. So he cared so little about the sport to educate himself on the basics. For Ratner it was a pure real estate play.

I get what you are saying but I have been ultra specific draft MHjr and sign Mike Evans (or Tee Higans). Immediately you have two huge weapons that were not on the roster.
By signing Mike Evans you would avoid the Megatron comparison. I think the Patriots would be a play-off team next season with a healthy roster but several key additions which can easily be achieved through draft and free agency.
Several games have come down to one score at the end. The defence has been good even without Gonzo, Jones and Judon.
If Bill is the coach next season and I think he will be I doubt he wants to draft another QB with his first pick in the first round.
Unless Bill has been told by Kraft I want you to lead the rebuild then Bill is very much in win now mode.
If Bill leaves the Patriots I can definitely see the Patriots draft a QB at the top of the first round. We would be in a rebuild with a new HC.
Agree. JV has the team playing hard but with all this defensive talent we are far less than what we should be.
Would be awesome, a real coming out party for him.
Exactly. The only way this can be achieved is some how extracting our 2024 pick from Houston but I’d imagine that would cost us DFS at the minimum and that is only if the Rockets don’t expect it to be a decent lottery pick.
A 10 game stretch of impressive play can turn around the narrative on any player.
Bridges is 27 and was the head-liner of the KD trade and had just been runner up for DPOY.
DFS at 30 was just part of the Kyrie deal.
A major difference.
The Grizzlies offered four lottery protected picks for Bridges. Not unprotected picks.
Which point guard would you like to target? My preference is targeting a PG in the 2024 draft but I’d also look to trade with the Lakers for Jalen Hood-Schifino who they drafted at 17 in this past draft. Lakers need players that can contribute now not in a few years.
I think DFS is easily the most valuable veteran on our roster. I would hold onto him and see how many contending teams around the time of the trade deadline want a 3&D veteran who can be on the court at the end of a play-off game.
I’m not so sure we can get a first round pick for Royce or Dinwiddie but we might be able to get a young player. For example the Lakers drafted Jalen Hood-Schifino at 17th in the 2023 draft. The Lakers with LeBron and AD are in win-now mode so I could see them move JH-S in a trade for a veteran who can contribute in the play-offs.
If Dallas are winning I wonder whether they might come back for Dinwiddie or DFS. In the 2023 draft the Mavericks selected Olivier-Maxence Prosper at number 24. He’s a 6ft7in SF/PF from Canada.
I think both would definitely be worth taking a punt on in exchange for our 30 year olds who will both be wanting new contracts in the summer. They’re too old for our rebuild.
Lonnie Walker will be in demand if he continues this level of play and could become a hired-gun for a play-off team needing off-the bench scoring. If we could get a first round pick for him then Sean Marks should cash in on him.
KAT is on a Supermax paying him over $60 million per season in coming years. No way do I want that on our salary cap. That Guy hasn’t even won a play-off series ever. He’s not a leader.
Zion is a weapon but his injury history and weight concern will be an issue for the rest of his career. Yet he’s tantalising as a top 5 player when he’s on court and on his game.
I agree a superstar is the way to go but they’re rarer than hen’s teeth.
With our GM’s eye for talent I’d use our assets to move into the top part of a draft and let Sean Marks select a player, he has such an eye for talent and a track record proving it.
The draft is always a risk but there is nothing better than a home grown draft pick developing into a top tier player.
This is why the Suns picks are so valuable as the Nets might have several top 10 picks to select potential all-star level players.
Cam Thomas (22) is untouchable for anyone.
Claxton (24) would require Gobert levels of assets because he will be a force for nearly the next decade and many of those he’ll be at his peak which he isn’t near yet.
Dariq is close to untouchable because being the number one player out of high school (go watch his Montverde highlights) he has such a high level of talent and seems to be a high level, charismatic personality.
Noah Clowney might be that stretch big that we and most other teams are looking for.
Mikal. I like his leadership skills and I want to build around him but at the same time a godfather offer might just be too good to turn down but some teams might view Mikal as that the type of two way player who can fit with that teams stars and get them to a championship.
Cam J - he is such a mature guy and a role model but his game is that of a 6th man or 5th starter on a contending team. $100 mil is an overpay even as the salary cap increases. The only way it becomes good value is if CJ levels up and I don’t see that occurring. Can he become more aggressive? Given his high character CJ will be very tradeable despite the large contract.
It’s very possible Mikal and CJ could revert to their 3rd option / 5th option like they were on the Suns when Brooklyn make a run but that’s not gonna be for a couple of years at least.
Let’s be real Ben Simmons is an albatross and no team is going to trade for him without taking us to the cleaners and it would be naive in the extreme to attach draft pics to Ben to get off his contract. Let it expire in summer 2025. The Nets can’t move forward significantly with BenTen on this roster because a triple single can never justify his $40 million salary.
Lonnie - fan favourite but I would trade him if we could get a first round pick for him.
Royce and Dinwiddie - both 30. I don’t want them extended. Can we get a pick for them?
DFS will likely be our most in-demand player and while he has been good for us this season he will be a difference maker for a contender so let’s get a young player or a draft pick in a trade for him.
This!
This team will stick together until February. So many other teams will be trying to improve by then that our veterans will become more attractive to contenders by then.
We can’t open up minutes for Dariq, Jalen and Noah until we move off some of our veteran depth.
The post-season is our goal.
I still see if Houston would trade us back our 2024 pick but who might they want on the Nets? Lonnie? DFS?
I’m looking to bring in future first round picks or trade for players who were recent first round picks who can still be developed with our young core.
Sure, the draft is a crap-shoot. No-one knows this better than Bill. There are usually about 12 elite players in a draft class but after that a lot of it comes down to coaching, opportunity and the situation the player finds himself in.
How do you think the Patriots (and fans) would feel if had had the number two overall an drafted Zach Wilson and he turned out the same way he has been for the Jets.
Or if we had given up three first round picks for Trey Lance. Actually this is a move Bill would never make, just too much draft capital.
I remember draft analysts saying Trevor Lawrence was the best prospect since Andrew Luck and that he was a sure-fire franchise QB. He’s been okay-to-good but nothing like he was advertised to be.
Mac was coming off a college championship where he looked excellent and had impressive stats especially for accuracy. It’s revisionism to say he wasn’t exactly the right pick at that time.
He hasn’t turned out to be close to the prospect we thought he might be but there are extenuating circumstances. Mac has to shoulder much of the blame and take responsibility for it too.
And I’m no huge Mac defender but his rookie season showed enough promise that if he had a strong O-line and weapons to throw to the narrative would be different.
Why so many stupid posts about repetitive themes on Bill’s drafting record. Mods you need to delete the trash which populates this sub.
Bill has selected a blue chip member of the franchise every time he has selected in the top 20 in the past 20+ years.
Richard Seymour sixth overall Ty Warren 13th overall Jerod Mayo 10th overall Nate Solder 17th overall Mac Jones 15th overall Christian Gonzales 17th overall That’s a 100% strike (depending on whether Mac works out and maybe he will when the Pats fix their O-line and get him a weapon to throw to).
Vince Wilfork (21st) too.
I’ve been saying the same thing for weeks. Sign a WR1 like Mike Jones or a WR1.5 like Tee Higgins in free agency and draft MHjr and you have transformed your wide receivers, it elevates the entries group. Bourne could be a third option, Douglas fourth option.
Take the best tackle available at the top of the second round or trade up to go back into the first round if you don’t have to give up too much.
Invest in the O-line.
After you’ve done those two things fixing the QB situation will be a lot easier.

Yeah, this is why the idea of going a full rebuild is asinine. There is a somewhat decent team here. The injuries to key players and the horrendous schedule are also key players.
The focus for the draft and the off-season is on the O. Reshape that and the Patriots are back in the mix.
