  • Not necessarily, I’m pretty sure they start the MMR for new accounts at Gold level and then adjust based on the games played.

So yes this will really suck for new players because they’ll likely get stomped in their first 20 or so ranked games while the idea is that smurf accounts should go up or land in whatever rank they are.

This is why people start smurf accounts to escape elo hell /hardstuck elo because if you get lucky you can shoot up to a rank or two above your other accounts rank in like 20 games as opposed to 200 games.

I think this issue is compounded by the fact that the MMR based matchmaking system is incredibly funky since this season 13 start IMO. I’ve never seen so many games with Gold/Plat and Iron/Bronze in the same games. I’ve come across multiple “Plat 4” players who seem to be playing in silver MMR in every ranked game even without a duo. Had a poor 100 game Iron player had to go against a Gold 2 in lane and ask “why do I have to play against a gold player”

They seem to make no effort to bring visible rank in line with MMR anymore, like by making Plat play against Plat and drop rank if they can’t keep up, instead they just let them have Plat rank but permanently play with and against silver and bronze players, and constantly put Irons against Golds, it’s so bizarre considering Bronze - Gold has the highest number of players so it shouldn’t be a match finding issue.

  • I kinda agree actually, if this rule is just going to make players want to troll pick champs that don’t fit just to be able to pick them for the skin that’s a bit ridiculous and kind of undermines the seriousness of Worlds Finals. Keria probably feels punished for playing well and picking champs that fit his team comp, which makes no sense, why punish him for that?

Like maybe the only restriction should be that the champ can or has been played in their role. Like it’d kinda suck if the support picked Riven which most support players don’t play so it’d feel a bit like a role got gipped out of a cool new skin. But otherwise they should be able to pick any champ they have played previously, not just in the finals or that worlds series.

  • It’s my firm belief that it’s Phreaks job (or anyone who is in his roles job) to be able to filter out the usual rants and complaints about their main not being strong or abusive and toxic comments vs actual legitimate concerns and constructive criticism.

If he can’t separate the two, and at least address the legitimate feedback, if not makes changes based on it, while ignoring the crazies and the whingers, then he’s not fit for his role and needs to step down.

  • Yeah but where is the accountability?

All he’s going to take from that is, ‘well I can talk down to the whole community like they’re all dipshits and cherry pick “evidence” to support the changes I made that no one likes, not give any proper response to valid constructive criticism I’ve received and as long as I write an apology and play the victim over the threats I got after if they kick up a fuss about it I’ll be fine!’

I’m not saying he should be threatened or harassed obviously, but I am saying he needs to face consequences for making such poor decisions, backing them up with irrelevant data and also talking down to and borderline mocking the entire community when we bring up valid criticism and complaints about his changes and actions, instead of oh idk ADDRESSING THE CRITICISM PROPERLY AND/OR REVERSING THE CHANGES. He should be removed or forced to step down from his current role, not just be allowed to cower away and quit social media, his actions are inexcusable.

There’s no excuse for riot to endorse one of their leadership employees treating their customers like this.
