Phreak mentioned that due to the increase of toxicity and death threats he will be quitting social media.

While I agree with some of the points about the ping system that the community has brought up before, harassing Rioters and others has been happening for so long and has been so severe, that i understand why phreak has come to this decision.

    Death threat are bad.

Being incompetent and forcing the agenda (just type karthus ult or "ping changes trended aggressively positively) is also bad.

That’s it. Hope the game will be social again. Preferably with voice chat

voice chat is severely needed at this point, valo has it, just give us a similar system, give us the option to mute people with it and report voice com abuse just incase EASY,

and then in the long run that will give us people who dont abuse voice the best source of communication we need, elevating the game and teamwork,

im tired of having to work around pings constantly, and then dont get me started on having to explain things through chat, which was a big issue in the past which is why we moved to pings,

I’m glad that the measures to reduce toxicity by Riot are working.

tbh its his own fault and riots fault, they keep making increasingly bad descisions that keep getting on the communities bad side, and they know these choices are bad but they still go through with them, Riot knows its a small amount of people being truely toxic in their game and the normal players sometimes get toxic due to the actions being done in their games, be it the severe greifing thats been going on, the bought bot accounts yada yada,

and they try to remove communication normal players need, imo league needs better communication, hell valo has voice coms league can use them too, that way we wont have to worry about people typing paragraphs in allchat, and go figure guess what MUTE EXISTS IN THE GAME, all the toxicity stems from riots inaction to actually fix the game and the issues that the playerbase keeps telling them are the issues,

now i dont condone death threats but its the internet u cant stop them

I don’t think it’s Phreak’s fault, but there is some stale stuff going on in Summoners Rift that really needs addressing. Biggest issue right now is xp, junglers and bot don’t have enough and mid and top can get too much of it early and snowball an uncatchable lead making the games simultaneously boring with no agency for more than half the team. If my top loses, we pretty much lose the game at that point and there’s no coming back from it and it’s hard to dedicate so much resources just to shut down one person and I don’t like my games decided on 2 deaths and 30 farm from the early game not because of losing, but not being able to really play the game. Wasting 6-8 people’s time on a level 1-2 matchup is not fun gameplay. I also think they should turn off home guards to stop the jungle cheese, most of my games just feel like a time waste if my team isn’t on board with level 1 cheese strategies and I think it’s dumb in a game that locks you into a typical 30 minutes of farming creeps under tower and 4 decisive fights in a game.

i personally dont think phreak is very good at game balance but its sad to see that people are resorting to attacking him rather than criticizing his job performance

the thing is theres people doing both. criticizing his job preformance and the internet will always have people that attack others with threats yada yada, however people are using the threat side to shut down all criticization

Well since his recent activity was pretty much trying to gaslight the community into thinking that K’Sante is fine, maybe he needs a break

Still, I haven’t seen any death threats so this might be Phreak gaslighting again, but if anyone sent him anything like that, shame on you

Good choice from him. While I disagree with some of the ping changes, the hate has been misplaced on twitter. This goes for anyone else who ever has to deal with this, if social media is ever effecting your personal and professional life, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with taking breaks, and it shouldn’t be seen as a big deal. I would hope the memes don’t get to him, and he’ll come back with a refreshed mindset.

I think tha success of League is because of devs listening to community. Imagine the first iteration of Chemtech Drake still existing. So i don’t think this will ever change and we’ll get 0 feedback

While these people’s actions are absolutely unacceptable and they should be reprimanded for them, I can’t help but feel like Phreak brought this on himself to a degree with his own attitude towards the playerbase.

Everytime he makes a change, he sticks to it like superglue. He never changes his opinion, never gives people the benefit of the doubt if they disagree, and never treats those with differing opinions as equals, he always treats them as lower than him. The karthus ult meme is exactly that, “you can type karthus ult, it’s not hard, just type it” like making fun of people for calling out an overall negative change for the game by being a smartass is not going to bode well for you in the long run. If he said “I can understand your frustrations with the ping systems, and we’ll keep an eye on how the overall perception of them changes as time goes on to make better changes to it. And if people say it’s bad, we’ll revert it.” and left it at that, he would’ve not gotten NEARLY the same amount of backlash. Because that stands his ground on his decision, acknowledges that doubters have a valid stance, and gives them the benefit of the doubt that they may be right.

Does this excuse any of these basement dwelling keyboard warriors saying the most hurtful things they can imagine to him? Not in the slightest, they are a huge problem and deserve to be reprimanded and brought to justice. However, Phreak can’t play the 100% innocent card here because his own behavior is a contributing factor to this happening.

“every time he makes a change”. You understand nothing of how companies work, how teams work or how software development works. A secret, is not one guy deciding everything and up to that person. Another secret, any person explaining patch notes is going to defend them, literally their job, you do not undermine your team and all decision making publicly.

Maybe riot will now know how toxic the player base is and create a queue for toxic players only. In saying that, its just a game people sending death threat over a game is just too much. Your life is more than just playing a video game

I posted a lot of his 1 hour videos here because I really appreciated his insight (even if people disagreed respectfully) because the head (or previously part of) the balance team discussing and explaining decisions for every change they were apart of was something that no other developers do. I understand why you are done /u/phreakriot - but I genuinely appreciated every video you made. Thank you.
