  • I just can’t see how so many people have this take.

This city is about to write a huge check to David Tepper for stadium upgrades. The people who live in this city are the ones who fund David Tepper’s team by buying tickets, concessions, merchandise, and watching it on television. Scott Fowler has been writing about sports for this city’s paper of record since 1994! It’s literally his job, which he’s held for several decades, to opine on sports teams.

It’s not a tantrum for him to be expected to be allowed to do his job. No one should be defending Tepper for choosing to ice out the Charlotte Observer because he didn’t like their reporting about him.

Do you people really want to live in a city where reporters can’t write their honest opinions about the team because its owner might cut off their access if the coverage isn’t polite enough? Do you seriously not see how shitty that would be?

  • Takes like this aren’t meaningful because you’ve intentionally chosen a QB who turned it around after a poor start to compare BY to, as opposed to the much, much more numerous QBs who didn’t turn it around.

Also there’s no actual perspective at play here, since BY and TL are two different human beings with different teammates and different coaching staffs with different conferences, so TL’s capacity for success doesn’t tell us anything about BY’s capacity for success.

Not dumping on you, just ranting about my least favorite type of sports take.

  • Maybe I’m becoming impatient, but none of these consolation prize accolades do it for me anymore. It seems like we often go for personnel based on a gut instinct of their ability to succeed, or the idea that their lack of success previously was due to external factors we can mitigate. It hasn’t worked so far, so I’m kinda cold on it.

I want someone who’s made noise in the playoffs consistently and recently. Ken Dorsey was my pick and I hope we get him now.

  • I was at a packed bar in Noda for this game. When they put Cam in on the goal line, the entire room went silent. It was eerily quiet. It was like you could hear everyone’s heartbeat.

When he scored the touchdown, people went livid. When he said “I’m Back” i swear grown men were in tears. Strangers were hugging and cheering and jumping up and down.

I felt my phone vibrate. It was a text from my dad. He said “I’m really proud of Cam. He deserves it.” My dad died in 2004.
