help-circle

  • Mostly OK with this because of 2 things

First, helps Scottie adjust into the role over time, rather than forcing it, so he can choose when to dominate if he feels he is in a game and in matchups he can

Second, Pascal increasing his trade value is a legitimate thing that is needed if our front office is serious about this team getting on the right trajectory

Last game Scottie only played 33 minutes also, which I also don’t mind, don’t want him playing heavy minutes anyway especially in a not very competitive game

  • Nurse firing was a mix of several things, even if I agree with the firing, there was definitely an element of FO scapegoating onto Nurse

He did lose the locker room, and likely did not have a good relationship with Scottie either

He also was right about the bench players, and refused to play them, putting him at odds with the FO

Is Nurse a bad coach? Not at all, he knows what he is doing, and he also didn’t want to be in a rebuilding situation

It was best for everyone to move on

Maxey will likely carry Embiid further in the playoffs than Harden ever could also

The real problem with this team however is FO’s asset management and lack of talent

Flynn, Boucher, Mcdaniels, Thad, and Temple would never get a job anywhere else in the current NBA, and Otto is a borderline fringe NBA player at this stage of his career, that’s literally 5 to 6 players on the roster, several of whom get a lot of minutes, who don’t even belong in the NBA talent pool

All of that happened because of a failure of asset management by the FO and MLSE

People can hate on Darko, or Scottie, or Siakam, or Dennis, or OG, or Gradey, or GTJ, or Purtle, all they want, but none of these people were responsible for the talent bleed and loss of picks the FO put Raptors in position for

Masai has leadership, which is MLSE

As frustrating as this roster construction is, and as atrocious as this bench is, it is very possible MLSE is hamstringing him quite a bit in a misplaced desire to always make the playoffs

Which is obviously not happening with this roster oddly enough

  • I really love Siakam and I love when it does work with the high low passing between Siakam, Barnes, and Purtle, but it’s time to change. We have seen the limit of where this team can go, and Raptors need to start loading more picks and young talent who fit Scottie and OG’s timeline

Raptors already lost Kawhi and Fred for nothing, without exchanging talent and just losing talent/salary it is a full net negative to not replace them. Kawhi was known that would happen, but failing to trade Fred was a huge mistake

It’s likely Siakam does re-sign, but that just keeps Raptors in purgatory without a clear direction around the new talent of OG and Barnes

  • Darko already admitted he thought it was a mistake in the post game, he thought Scottie played 12 minutes in a row and it was only 7 or something so he took him out and also didn’t call a timeout to put him back in

He specifically called himself out and said this was a mistake in the post game, not sure why everyone attacking someone who immediately recognized his mistake and took full responsibility for it

Didn’t mind the lineups overall, except for Scottie running with only bench players at times

Barnes and Siakam staggered with different lineups worked quite well at times, and helps with pacing

Have GTJ run with Siakam / Barnes is necessary, it is too much for him to run with only bench players

Lineups with Siakam + Purtle, or Barnes + Purtle worked pretty well, and staggering Barnes and Siakam with different lineups helps the rest of the team generally

Siakam seems to need to run with more starters than Barnes does also, since Barnes is a lot more creative and versatile in his offensive game, he doesn’t rely as much on height mismatches to drive
