  • This is a great breakdown. There is a strong argument, that if Allen had made the “correct call“ none of the three interceptions shown in this video would have happened. There is certainly a lack of adaptation in the playcalling, however, Josh is failing to read the defense well in a lot of cases. Eric from cover one had a breakdown up the other day where the offense had a cover two coverage beater called, the defense lined up in what was obviously cover one and Josh failed to make any adjustments. Instead of realizing that the route concept that was called would be ineffective against that particular coverage and audible to a play designed to beat cover one, he just rolled with that. Predictably nobody was open. The end result is this looks like a terrible play call but really Josh made poor pre-snap reads, and continued with the play that was doomed from the start.
MacDermots, over arching football philosophy is to not do anything that would allow your team to be hurt by a big play on either offense or defense. This has lead to Dorsey trying to reign in Josh and keep the offense in schedule. It’s also lead to Josh trying to keep level emotionally (what did he call it “quiet positive” or some shit?). I get the idea, a guy like Rodgers would feast in this offense bc he will take the easy throw 10 times out of 10. That’s not our guy though, McD and Co. need to realize they’ve got a gunslinger at QB and they have to let him off the leash. Let him get fired up, let him run, let him roll out and chuck it. They are trying to turn a wild animal into a house pet, if you don’t let him off the leash to hunt every once in a while he’s gonna kill some of your chickens.
