  • Monster hunter series has worst storytelling of any game I played, but it’s hard to even count Monster Hunter as i am pretty sure the story counts as an excuse for gameplay.

Sunbreak final boss: Pretty cool mission where you realise the monster you are fighting is battling the same enemy as you, so you let him go so he can continue to protect the country.

Sunbreak optional quest: “Hey, Primordial Malzeno is back! Too bad he’s gone berzerk, so you have to slay him!”

What annoys me particularly about Sunbreak and makes it go from “overly convenient but empty” to “bad” is Dame Fiorayne, who is ALMOST an ok character, but every time she wants to do something, all the other characters put her down and say she’s being too hot headed and you should do it instead. Basically they’re calling her a “dramatic woman” when she’s not anything like that and it’s clearly the perception of some horrible male writer. At least Monster Hunter World respects women, bruh. World also has imo better presentation of its story and makes up better excuses for you showing up to help… by a VERY MARGINAL AMOUNT. Gameplay wise i feel the story mode of Sunbreak is a lot better QOL-wise but the endgame of World is more satisfying.

  • Nah because while the steamdeck is really good, it isn’t as good as most gaming PCs, and its battery is too poor. It is of a similar power to my current PC from 2018, but this PC does everything else better, such as games that run better on Directx 12, or Discord, so I only use the steamdeck if I’m out, travelling, or playing a game that simply feels better on the tinier screen (Heroes of Hammerwatch, Monster Hunter Rise).

I’m on the waiting list for my OLED to come in…

  • The dlc is hard but it’s the same principle as marauders from the same game, they make enemies that punish you for using the bloodthirsty game approach you may learn to take in base game. I felt adequately challenged by base game and had more than my fill of marauders, who can be annoying to fight if they throw other enemies at you.

I also put 135 hours into the base campaign so I was pretty depleted by May 2020 when I moved onto spending the same amount of time in Xenoblade Chronicles instead. When I get a fixation for a disproportionate time and move on, i am so exhausted by it that i dont touch the game or show for a long long time.

  • I haven’t got PTSD, my grandfather does and it’s nasty, but I do have what might be described as post traumatic stress. It’s a funny one but anything with child abuse or even school bullying makes me feel sick and angry.

The child abuse one is more common in videogames, it’s emotional abuse that hurts more though. I don’t count a parent, guardian, or older sibling being straight up evil as child abuse. It’s more the amount of psychological control they have over their kids. So the evil older brother in Fable 3 doesn’t upset me (though I care enough to remember him), but Kratos does. But Kratos is far from the worst dad I’ve seen, since he seems incapable of controlling his son and he does encourage Atreus during the game. He was just distant. The good news is that games tend to not put you in a position of vulnerability, so it’s rare that I see something like that, especially as I NEVER touch the horror genre.

Child abuse and school bullying are both quite common in tv media, anime, and bad movies lol. People can hear my blood pressure rise as we watch those scenes. We’ve been watching lots of One Piece and usually characters are CARTOONISHLY evil, but fucking hell that series makes me so mad sometimes. Robin’s backstory especially, and now I’m bracing myself because we have Sanji coming up and I know his is ten times worse.

My partner has certain scenes and phrases that upset her, and it’s highly possible she does have PTSD. So anything with sexual abuse and certain words must be avoided or at least warned of ahead of time, otherwise we are not watching or playing that thing again for a while. Her taste in games is tame like mine though, neither of us play horror so we don’t find any really uncomfortable scenes. But we do play some graphic novels independently of each other sometimes and of course those are uncomfortable for any woman reading even if you haven’t got bad experiences. I don’t want to introduce her to Danganronpa.

  • this bit was really good, but it was actually the ONLY thing i liked about the ending

!my partner was not in this storyline and had a much more underwhelming end for her tav, just one chat with her LI and that was it!<

!and i got no romantic scene with wyll specifically because of this scene with karlach, it overrides what would’ve been wyll’s final scene!<

!i felt really good about going to avernus with them though!<

  • the fucking icon of sin??? im not sure i agree

i prefer the ending boss of 2016, the icon of sin is a weird fight for me, very grand but they somehow make it seem very tiny because most of your focus is on the ground enemies like in every other fight in Eternal.

and that was my big issue with Eternal ultimately, all the normal engagements were great (in the base game) but all the bossfights were very underwhelming because for some reason they didn’t believe you could have bosses without mobs anymore. all the bossfights in 2016 are much better.

  • For me it’s definitely the first Bayonetta.

I mean. You beat your father in an epic fight where he’s throwing buildings at you. Then you get kidnapped into a giant statue which launches into SPACE, and is transformed into God!

Then you get to play as your girlfriend/rival who drives UP the falling pieces of the rocket on a MOTORCYCLE to catch up to the space ship at 900mph.

Then she saves you and you beat the shit out of God in space and she uses the elements to transform the battlefield while you punch her fists and face. The entire arena is a giant sphere which you can continuously run around in.

Then when you finally beat her, you and your girlfriend-rival combine your hair together into SATAN and you PUNCH God’s SOUL into the SUN, and the game part here is you have to make sure she doesn’t hit any other planets on the way there. She can hit Earth and it blows up lol.

Then you and your gf fall to Earth on the burning rubble statue that is God’s corpse, and destroy the rubble before it can come back to life or kill anyone on the way down.

Oh no… did Bayonetta die? How did she and Jeanne get out of this one?

Seems like they didn’t. You see Luka and Enzo at her funeral and they are giving their last words to her.

…Except… the nun at the funeral looks a lot like Jeanne…

…and Rodin shows up starting to shoot the angels who have come for Bayonetta…

…and she LAUNCHES out of the coffin!!! Immediately annihilating angels all over again with Jeanne and Rodin! And some very triumphant music plays and during the credits sequence you get to replay some parts of the story for a few seconds, and you get fucking SCORED in the credits sequence, insane.

Then if it’s your first time beating the game, after the quieter poledancing credits sequence later, you get a full on dance-video of Bayonetta and all her friends and enemies.

Easily the most bombastic ending to any game in fucking history.

…My second place would be Undertale. That game has like 25 endings and each is a little bit different, with the best one being so bittersweet and the worst one being the most dreadful thing ever.
