Allow me to refresh your memory:
Dec 4th, 2022 - Bengals vs Chiefs - we had a crucial 4th quarter fumble in the red zone by Travis Kelce that cost us the game against the Bengals. The 2022 Chiefs offense had the exact same issue we’re having this year - balls bouncing off the hands of receivers - except last year, instead of hitting the turf, the deflections went for 6 interceptions in the first 12 games. We had the exact same fan arguments - the “Chiefs are amongst the AFC leaders, despite all the random failures, and the defense is much improved thanks to trading away Tyreek - so chill, we still have a great chance of winning it all” optimists vs the “we’re squandering Mahomes’ prime, we need a WR1, and we are not good enough to win a Super Bowl without one” pessimists. Everyone shared the same core complaint: it’s Kelce and a bunch of JAGs out there.
On December 5th, after the Bengals loss, we were in virtually the same position - first place in the West by multiple games, but 2nd in the AFC playoff picture. But even with the weakest part of our schedule ahead, both then and now, we felt deeply worried about our team after losing a measuring stick game (then vs the Bengals, now vs the Eagles).
We all remember how last season turned out. But it feels like a lot of folks have forgotten the bumpy road that got us there. Keep the faith, ya’ll. This team is a work in progress. And I believe that once again, we’re going to peak at just the right time. I’m not saying we’re definitely going to win another Super Bowl. History doesn’t always repeat itself. But sometimes it rhymes.

Yeah I don’t know how theres always the same meltdowns other than some people are trolls or goldfish.

Only big difference from last year is Juju, but Rice is on track to surpass Juju’s production with the same number of targets.

You get a snake in the outhouse, there will always be those that burn it down and those that no longer worry about having mice around while they poop.

Which is another way of saying, (and not a very good one either) there’s always the “fire everybody!”crowd and the “this is fine” crowd.

As for myself, I’m not mad, just disappointed.

I’m glad you posted this as the “woe is us” posts in this sub were starting to get annoying. But also I think most people thought they were going to figure it out this week. Coming off a bye and playing a Super Bowl caliber team, seemed like a great time to iron out the kinks in our offense and open the playbook a bit.

We opened the playbook more in the first half, and seemed to close it back up in the second half. But the drops were atrocious. I think the frustration is also that we targeted Watson 11 times for 4 catches and MVS 4 times for 0 catches. A lot of fans are just baffled as to why MVS and Rice had the same amount of targets. Also I know he tweaked something, but Toney was running circles around the Eagles in the first half and disappeared in the second half. Like was never even schemed into plays.

I think the team will figure it out though, we’ve always had rough patches during the season and have always figured it out come playoff time. Do I think we’ll win the Super Bowl? Maybe not, it’s hard to repeat. But I think this is the worst this team gets and it’s overall up from here.

People around here have goldfish brain memories and think that a single drop defines a season and a career.

Everybody forgets everything we have ever done in the past when we lose a close game. It’s the nature of the beast with some of these people around here.

I remember it all. I’m not even worried.

What really is getting to some Chiefs fans is fans from other teams have ratcheted up their hate. The Chiefs have become like a whole storyline in the NFL. Every play of every game this year somebody somewhere is crying about how “the Chiefs hold on every play”. Somebody every play is saying the refs help the Chiefs. And so on…it’s been constant this year. Even though the Chiefs have probably been penalized more in every game (i’m guessing).
