  • This sounds like a terrible idea. It’s already hard to get the leg up sometimes, but a constant battering will just be awful and confusing. Especially in a Free To Play environment.

As others said, all speed characters like Ball/Doom/Lucio will have a field day with this. If it’s true, I’m not looking forward to it. Stagger will be 10x worse.

  • I think in a game designed around futuristic technological characters, you’re way off. I’m all for crazy abilities, but in the Overwatch universe they are always explained with science. Until Kiriko and somewhat Illari.

i.e. Reaper isn’t magically turning into mist, he has nano bots that constantly reconfigure his body.

Breaking this pattern does break immersion. You are supposed to think about why they’re capable of what they’re doing, because they tried to add a layer of realism. “Science is indistinguishable from magic” this was the message of Overwatch. And yeah, they didn’t maintain it so I think it’s a fair criticism of the character design/writing.

  • I actually don’t agree, because when you’re in charge of a game you’re in charge of its success. Player count, advertisement, engagement.

If leavers were matched with leavers, then the game would become severely less enjoyable for those people. “Well that’s what I want! Leaving should be discouraged!” Well, that’s a nice ideology but sadly everything is about driving up numbers, not discouraging a chunk of player base by putting them into a bracket where they would have a worse experience. And they would.

I would not pick up overwatch if every time I joined I got a game of leavers, it would be a lot harder to log in and play the game for those people. Not to mention building a system for that, essentially another hidden MMR but for leaving. And that’s a lot of work for a function that will alienate a section of the player base. Good idea in theory, but in practice we’re shooting ourselves in the foot with this.

  • My cousin was really good at Fortnite or something and my aunt was bragging about it and for some reason my mom has always been proud of my Overwatch rank?

She legit at thanksgiving goes “Stacy, my son is a Granmaster at video games” and I DIED. I was like 20 and my mom is sitting there bragging about my overwatch rank lmao

Anyways, I don’t think Ultimate would sound as good, and I agree it should go below GM. Or they should just change the name because Master-Ultimate-Grandmaster doesn’t sound great in ascending order.
