  • I get that they are practically the only major basketball game on the market right now, but the fact that people still buy into it every single year is nuts. Looking at steam reviews is the definition of insanity. People pay for this game every single year expecting something new only to be shocked when its the same old story with enhanced sweat graphics.

Ive long wanted to drop back into an NBA game, but not when its run like this. The last time I bought a 2k game was 2014. The last couple times I played a new version was because they were provided free courtesy of PS+ monthly, and both times were horrible. It was both 2k16 and 2k20, and by the time they gave them free it was 2 years after they had already released and the servers were shut down. Problem with that is, is that you cannot earn VC naturally in the game and you cannot upgrade your characters without VC. So you will be in the League with a character who will be forever stuck at rating 60 simply because you cannot upgrade or earn badges for them.

All the time Take Two has frivolously pursued lawsuits against other devs, I hope they take a huge L on this.

  • Definitely in favor of Best Supporting Actor. So many stellar performances gone underappreciated through the years.

As for Best Remake…first I think they it should be important to establish the rules and guidelines of what makes a remake vs a remaster. Also there could be years when one doesn’t happen OR it’s given to an lackluster game because of not enough competition in the category. Hell, it could encourage some companies just to throw something out there to claim it for an easy win and take home bragging rights for a year because of the award.

I mean…it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. On one hand, it could encourage some companies to finally release remakes of IPs that fans have long wanted and asked for for decades (cough: Dino Crisis). But on the other, it could encourage them to release unnecessary remakes too (cough: Last of Us Part 1) instead of focusing on something new. As it stands, it’s not like they have departments dedicated to either remakes or new games. It’s all one. So, a studio that could be making a new game is now encouraged to just remake something established instead.

Someone else said maybe they should do Best New IP instead and I completely agree.

  • Im not sure what you are talking about, but this is what Ive read from numerous other articles on the matter, including statements from the dev themselves

Wolfire Games CEO David Rosen is leading a class-action lawsuit representing game developers against Valve, which asserts that the near dominance of Steam on the PC games market increases the prices of games due to Valve’s service taking a 30% commission from the sale of each game.

So it is very much related to what Im talking about. The part of the lawsuit Im referring to is the one where the CEO asserts that Valve has dominance over the PC market. Steam doesnt have dominance over the PC market on its own accord, but for the fact that its loyal fanbase refuses to shop elsewhere. There are even other quotes by the same guy who says that because of Steams dominance over the market some devs are afraid NOT to sell their games on Steam. And again, like I said, Steam isnt forcing people to sell their games on their marketplace or not, its their consumers who are blindly bloodthirsty.

  • Its not even necessarily Steams fault that they hold such a huge chunk of the PC gaming community in their pocket, its the consumers. Literally there are so many alternatives, and some of them even give you Steam keys like Humble Bundles store, but every would rather use Steam than the others not always because they dont trust the competition, but a common complaint is that they dont want to have a bunch of launchers. The amount of times Ive seen people say something along the lines of “if its not coming to Steam, Im not buying it”, “Ill wait for a Steam release”, “no Steam, no sale”, and outright refuse any other service and bash others just for existing is stark. Valve doesnt even make it a point to compete with the compeition. Practically they just siit there and do whatever, and the others are the ones using whatever methods they can to bring people over.

  • At first I had no clue what the guy was talking about based on all the headlines that are being written. I was like “30%, thats standard across the industry. This just sounds like someone trying to cash in on the Epic vs Apple lawsuit statements”. Not to mention that fact that its Sony so why would anyone else have a say in what gets sold on their store.

But then I read it carefully and I understand now. Hes talking about the fact that you can only buy digital games for the Playstation on the Playstation store. If you want to buy an Xbox game digitally, you can go to other places other than the Xbox Marketplace, like Amazon or Best Buy, and Target has all manner of digital game codes for Nintendo games so the eShop isnt the only place for you to buy Nintendo games digitally. But for Playstation the only place you can buy digital games for the PS Store is literally through Playstation.

When I thought about it, I dont thought about it, maybe it was because I primarily bought physical copies of my games and never really paid much attention to it. or maybe its always been like that and I didnt notice, but I could have swore at one point that you could. But I looked up Playstation games on other storefronts and yeah no…I couldnt find any digital copies. If you go to Best Buy and look up games like Horizon, God of War or Spiderman, they only offer you the physical copies for the Playstation. If you try a 3rd party game like Dead Space, under the Playstation 5 option it gives you the two choices of Physical or Digital, but when you try to click the Digital version it changes you to Windows or Xbox because there is no digital version of the game for Playstation that they are able to sell. However, for Xbox Series and Windows they offer both the physical and digital copies. Same on Amazon. So thats what hes getting at, the fact that he cant buy Playstation digital games anywhere else but the Playstation store be they 1st party or 3rd party.

That being said, as consumer friendly as his stance is, this still seems like a frivolous lawsuit. For one thing, everyone knows the 30% is standard, and digital copies on games rarely ever go on sale even at other places so the “damages” claim is an exaggeration at best. Ive never seen a sale for digital game cards at Best Buy or Target, even if Xbox and Nintendo were having sales on their digital stores, so claiming that other competitors arent able to sell them and its hurting the consumer seems like a very loose argument to stand on. That, and like others have pointed out in their comments, during his AMA and in other examples around the internet he carries himself very odd. Dubbing himself the “consumer champion”, and given all the negative responses to his vague and misdirecting answers he doesnt really seem like he has much of a handle on this situation.

  • I think another issue is what they did and didnt do with the game. Originally I was interested and hyped about the game based solely on the premise of a AAA 1st person magic casting game. But then once they started showing gameplay it looked like another generic 1st person shooter except they swapped guns for gauntlets.

That showcase they did, did not serve the game any justice and made it look more so like magic wasnt much as you casting it as much as it was which gun type do you want to use. Especially since each gauntlet not only has its set magic, but a bunch of prefixes and suffixes that basically dictate how the weapon works, fires, stats, etc. I was expecting something along the lines of maybe Dishonored or Bioshock but all in on the magical aspect, but the initial gameplay didnt really show that. It didnt help that it had that Destiny style UI and all those annoying little stats and a bunch of tiny incremental upgrades.

It wasnt until after the game had already came out and you got to see some real gameplay that it started looking more interesting because you actually got to see some of the magic at work. But even then it still looked like every other FPS already out and didnt lean enough into its own identity.

P.S. Doesnt help that it does the thing that all AAA games seem to like doing nowadays where they like to make your character super submissive and everyone else around them an insufferable, condecending, demeaning %*@&. Just watching it I was getting annoying. I couldnt imagine having to sit through it with that dialogue.

  • On one hand, it makes sense that it shouldnt have microtransactions or be a live service game since they originally did say it was supposed to be a single player action adventure game, but on the other hand its easy to see why people would think otherwise. What with all the job listings, as well as Zaslav saying himself he wants all WB games going forward to be live service, and has been hamstringing that into practically everything since Shadow of War.Even when watching the Suicide Squad overview video, despite all the devs saying that stuff about passion, maybe it was just me, but it felt disingenuous. Like they did have passion for something, and did have a plan, but are being forced to work around incorporating all this other stuff into something else that they want to do.

I just hope they put the Arkham style combat in it.

I never take reviews seriously. They are interesting to look at, but thats about it. At the end of the day its just someone elses opinion that was their job to do. Plus its not like its always the same person who reviews these things.

I will say though, I am interested in the Portal because I would love to play my Ps5 games on the go like when Im at work. But its that caveat that its more so streaming the game that gets me. My workplace doesnt have the best network connection for something like that, and even then, it turns on your Ps5 remotely and requires it to be on and plugged up to work right? What if someone hops on my Ps5 or turns it off while Im away and playing it? Then my game cuts off doesnt it?
