  • I think his diet might play a role too, but yeah he expends a lot of energy getting to his spots because of Roster and lineup deficiencies… He also gained muscle. He also is coming off an injury. He also was one of the top guys in usage and minutes played.

Give Cade a more reasonable workload and half a season to get into game shape. Give him consistent spacing. Give him easier shots by letting Ivey create for him and his second halves of games might look similar to his first halves.

  • A big factor in the lack of shooting is we are rolling out a bunch of young guys with no vets to steady things. Young players tend to suck at shooting.

There are certainly exceptions to this generalization but almost every good to great player is shooting significantly better 5 to 10 years in from 3 than when they were as rookies or second year guys

Weaver tried to surround the young poor shooting core with knock down shooters (Bogey, Monte, Burks, Harris), but Harris’ regression last season wasn’t him getting over an injury. He’s cooked. Burks seems like he’s playing hurt. Bogey and Monte haven’t played a game.

Sasser was drafted for his shooting and he’s been up and down (which is expected). Livers was injured and hasn’t shot well. They pushed Stew to become a shooter and he’s had some success, but he’s still far from being a legit floor spacer.

It is true that we do have too many non shooters in the roster, but it’s been a perfect storm of bad luck that everyone who can space the floor has been injured or is too young to be consistent.

He needs to start. Cade needs Ivey to take some of the offensive burden off him, and they need to play together to determine if the pairing works long term. The second Unit needs to figure it out on its own tbh. Hopefully Monte gets healthy at some point or Sasser and Burks stop sucking.

  • I think the issue is he’s just missing shots he needs to make. In the 4th quarter, when we desperately needed some offense to stay in striking distance with Washington he missed back to back wide open 3s. It’s been like this all season. I was so frustrated with that sequence, I turned the game off for the first time this season.

I agree, he is doing better overall with Ivey. Ivey has been doing GREAT and Cade naturally plays off the rim pressure he provides. However on a 14 game losing streak any mistake or failure to convert will be seen as a massive issue given the fans are thoroughly disgusted and angry with the season.

I think things would improve if Ivey got a few of the shots Cade is currently putting up. We also desperately need last year’s Bogey or a trade to give us more guys who can score as outside Cade Ivey it’s all dunks and Bricks

  • All that is true, but also this team is a disaster. You can clearly see the individual talent and some of the plays they make together are truly beautiful.

There are no glue guys to hold the team together. No one who can just hit a damn open shot.

With the 14 game losing streak it has become a self sustaining catastrophe that has no end in sight. I have confidence that even if we are ahead, even if we are close we will choke. We are rapidly approaching infamous levels of ineptitude.

  • I am not opposed to swapping problem players but I wanted to take it a step further and make Williams the throw in with Caruso being the center piece.

I feel Caruso compliments Cade Ivey and Sasser wonderfully on both sides of the ball, but despite every contender pining for what Caruso provides a team almost no one here thought it was worth pursuing.

I can only assume it because they are hyper focused on not taking on Williams due to most of Weavers reclamation projects not working out. That and they not giving Caruso the respect he deserves because he’s a white boy.

  • I don’t think they are failing. It’s way to early to be expressing such stupid overreaction takes. Cade has played less than 90 games and fans are saying we are failing him.

They drafted for talent (over fit), which makes sense given our obvious lack of talent in the roster… I am happy with every 1st round picks they made since they drafted Cade.

I am also happy with most the trades they made (Monte Bogey Burks) to surround him with Veteran shooters and to hold on to them. Sucks they are hurt, but we need the shooting more than anything else at this point.

I am glad they jettisoned Bey, even if Wiseman was a dud. Umude came out of the G league and has played better than Bey did for us on both sides of the ball (outside that random 50 piece). Hell even Knox has arguably outperformed Bey when given extended run.

I would like to see a trade or two this season to get more NBA players on the roster so someone being hurt doesn’t force us to play G league players and for the team to throw some money at bigtime shooters in FA or via salary dump trades in the off-season.

We suck, but Cade is a part of that. So are injuries. It will take longer than we want, but they are slowly surrounding him with talent. If by next year we have the same issues you can say we are failing him, maybe.

  • Hayes hasn’t been as bad as some guys in the league this year. However those other players have proven they can do better. This is (to this point in time) Peak Killian. I think he got his fg % to 40% last year for a game and then he played horrible for a good stretch before somewhat recovering and finishing well below 40%. Hopefully Morris comes back soon. Failing that hopefully Killian plays better off the bench.

  • It’s not bullshit. He’s a rookie. He is going to be a fantastic player and is already amazing in some ways, but it’s the job of the coach to hold players accountable. If he messes up multiple times, he should take a seat. I wish Monty punished guys for avoidable mistakes more often, but we don’t have the depth to do it all the time.

He played his season high in minutes last game. 29 minutes and he was the sub at the end of the game two games ago when Ausar was taken out. It seems like Ivey is slowly earning more time and he’s played exceptionally well recently. Seems like the strategy is working, but don’t let reality get in the way of your dissatisfaction.
