  • I think my big takeaway is that the offense looked so much better but it wasn’t that the players themselves played all that much better, or even that the core philosophy of the offense changed. Canada was just that bad of a play caller

Kenny played well but still made some of the same mistakes he has been making. Missing a couple open dudes, some inaccuracies particularly to GP, some aggravating decisions like throwing a screen pass for a 5 yard loss to Warren, and still not finding the end zone. What’s more is that the line didn’t ever seem to give Kenny a ton of time to work, and only one of our running backs seemed to be able to get anything going. It was honestly a lot of the same shit, right down to a DJ dropped TD

But just changing the play caller and doing things people have been begging them to do all season brought all the life to this offense. Using the middle of the field. Incorporating deep shots here and there to keep defenses honest. Being aggressive on early downs, and avoiding 3rd and long; we had 17 3rd downs (!!) but only 9 of them were >7 yards, and we went 5/8 on the ones that were less than that. It’s common sense football

  • I said in another thread that this whole situation felt bizarre because the only other instance of Tomlin benching a player due to conduct was AB in week 17 2019. It’s notable that he did that then, and now, but didn’t do so when, for example, Pickens was bitching on social media, or when Ben was airing his various grievances about his teammates on a radio show, or even with ABs other insane off the field comments and issues

The clear theme with Chuks and the eventual AB benching is that it was an attitude that showed that the player didn’t care about winning the game. Tomlin will let players like George get angry, be publicly upset, but at the end of the day he’s still here to win so it’s ok. Chuks and AB crossed that line

  • Yeah this whole thing is kinda bizarre.

Tomlin doesn’t really have a long history of being a hard ass. Good example just happened with Pickens and Tomlin says and does nothing (publically), but some mystery thing with Chuks is supposedly so bad that he’s getting benched? What could he have possibly said?

The only time I can think of when Tomlin actually benched a player as punishment for their conduct was AB in a must win game vs the Bengals. I want to say it can’t be that bad but also I have no other examples of Tomlin doing this

  • No. Not at all

I know LOTS of steelers fans. My extended family all hails from western PA and excluding a few black sheep Eagles fans, all of them support the steelers. Always something to bond over during thanksgiving and christmas

We usually go to at least one game each year. We still have friends in Pittsburgh that take us to tailgates. The game day environment is amazing and welcoming, even on bad days. Whole thing is just, very very fun.

This sub is where I get most of my steelers content and quite frankly, no one here is fun. Everyone here is angry and argumentative and unable to hear out others opinions. And I say “everyone” but its basically 6-7 power users that enter every thread to just yell their opinions at everyone. Its draining and its kinda why I go through cycles of spending time here, right now im on a lot but a lot of times I just need a break

Theres something about reddit in general where most of the commenters are obsessed with being the smartest people in the room and are often extremely arrogant about it, but truthfully most of the people on this website are pretty fucking stupid. Mind you, my friends and family can be too, but they arent so arrogant to think they have all the answers
