I wish they’d just move away from this gimmicky close-mid range playstyle that no one enjoys. It’s just wild how hard he is outranged by other mid range heroes. There’s always the comparisons to Ashe when you mention his terrible range, but we have to look at his power level compared to all hitscan. Even the support hitscans outdamage him at range.

Baptiste at 25-45 which is what Cowboy used to have

Bastion, Soldier, Ashe, Illari are at 30-50

Widow and Sojourns alt fire are at 40-60

Ana with no falloff

No one that plays this hero wants to play him as a close range hero. It’s all about clicking heads at mid to long like other hitscans and similar heroes. Longer range projectile heroes like Sojourn and Hanzo are pretty strong and it’s hard to contest them with the falloff too.

They could remove magnetic grenade and fan the hammer but give him back the range and this hero would feel infinitely better and more fluid

    Yeah there’s zero reason for me to play him over Widow or Hanzo. Plus Widow and Hanzo have better skins.

    The thing that confuses me the most is that Blizzard removed his flashbang for being “unfun to play against” then, they gave him magnetic grenade. Because, yes: being significantly slowed and having your escape ability turned off for a couple of seconds is WAY more fun to play against than a half second stun. Especially when it can heat seek you, right?

    As a Masters Cass main, I think hes fine. Before, during the start of OW2 it was a breeze to grind through to Diamond. Games were chill cuz all I had to do was point and click. no mental stress cuz hes a simple character. Couple that with the fact his revolver had insane range I could challenge anyone during that time of Cass, I would often challenge widows and win majority of those duels. Only a good Ashe could put up a challenge and thats saying something cuz shes the ranged hero. However the most impressive part about Cassidy was his mid range combat, he excels especially well in it. Getting headshots are easier up close, which is what you should always be going for as Cass, his headshot damage is stupidly strong. Its why I consider a Cassidy(with good aim) as a solid counter to Orisa.

    Fast forward to now, hes still incredibly strong in mid range fights. Its where he shines the most. However outside of that he is outclassed by most dps, but not all. Not only that but Cassidy isn’t able to gain a lot of value by headshotting tanks from a distance. Now you have to be right behind your tank or off to the side. Yes Cass sucks at times but as long as you stay in his optimal range, you will never see him fail a gunfight. Hes only bad if you play him wrong.

    Again I’m a Masters Cass so what do I know really. I just think that most of us Cass mains are mad that hes not as easy as he used to be. Can’t just stand anywhere and dominate the game anymore.

    You cant even play him at close range if you wanted to. He gets absolutely demolished by tanks since blizzard is giving them all super speed now, and trying to back up versus a tank running forward at you is asking to die.

    Not to mention theyre making all new healers and dps heads super fucking small and they all seem to move at blazing speeds when strafing left/right, making trying to land a headshot on them almost impossible.

    My mistake was getting the Gold weapon for him when he was good. Not even 2 weeks later they nerfed him and I haven’t touched him since. Easily one of the worst DPS now. Really glad I grinded for weeks to get his gold weapon.

    Idk when the nerf happened but they need to revert fan the hammers damage and random ass spread, you used to be able to fth in a relatively straight line for full damage

    His rework in season 1 was perfect IMO. He kept his midrange hitscan DPS role, and his mag grenade gave him a niche as an anti flanker.

    True, but I’m not a fan of the idea to make him just a mid-range hitscan and nothing more. Not when every other mid-range hitscan either outclasses him like Ashe and Sojourn, or does what he does and more like 76, Allari, and even Bastion* to a degree.

    TBH, I think leaning more into that close-range brawler shtick they were going for with stuff like the extra HP, damage resistance on the roll, and even his magnetic grenade on release would be the best option.

    I can imagine it now; a hitbox increase, 250 HP, some sort of self-healing, and his fan-the-hammer being converted into a full damage 3-Shot burst with a cooldown and the ability to hit headshots.

    !*I still think he has his design issues, but Bastion is technically “good” right now. !<

    I don’t think he is in nearly as bad of a spot as you say, at least not across all the ranks. He might struggle in GM/top500 but so many heroes do. He IS the close-mid range hitscan. When he had long falloff range he was unstoppable.

    I would not mind if flashbang came back but I really hope he gets something else instead. 75% of the time, it’s the tank that’s getting flashed and while it’s “one of the shortest stuns”, it still stuns which we really don’t need more of in OW2.
