  • This thread is crazy.

Wemby still looks like the first player I’ve ever seen who could become the GOAT defensive player.

The problem is that he is being completely mismanaged by Pop and the Spurs. What the fuck is the point of being 7’4 and coming off a DPOY year at age 18 in France as a Center if they’re gonna play you on the perimeter defensively?

I don’t wanna hear bullshit about extending his career. Opponents take like 50% fewer attempts at the rim when he’s there. Nobody in history has this effect. Playing Center is not gonna cut his career length in half, and if it does but he’s among the greatest defensive players ever during that time - so be it.

  • I feel bad for the Spurs, because they are doing a terrible job with Wembanyama. I’m seriously worried they are affecting his ultimate ceiling.

Popovich has been a below average coach for at least 2-3 years now and he has been AWFUL this year.

Playing Wemby at the 4 makes no sense at all. His rim protection is arguably the best in the league when he’s in the paint. He has the GOAT catch radius on rolls, he can bully or shoot over mismatches on switches when it’s a guard, and you can use him as a playmaking hub in the post or at the nail.

Instead, Popvich runs nonstop isos for him at the baseline or the elbow which are his biggest weaknesses because he’s fucking 7’4", and to a monstrous 30% USG.

I have watched Wemby for a long time and he was never going to be a strong shooter in this league, only a solid one when good looks are created. His genius in scoring is in PnR roll man play, spot up shooting, and scoring around the rim. Everyone knew this last year.

  • Assuming the cap goes up 10%, sixers should have about $30M/year to offer OG. If they get knocked out in the first round, Paul Reed’s contract becomes non-guaranteed and they can open up $39M/year to sign OG.

OG is absolutely taking any 6ers offer above 35M. 6ers could then still sign Oubre and Maxey with bird rights, Korkmaz with the BAE, Paul Reed and another player with the MLE. That males a top 7 of Embiid, Siakam, OG, oubre, Maxey, Reed, Korkmaz, and they’d probably be a tax team which I’m sure they’re fine with.

They could definitely find a few minimum guys to round out their 10 rotation players.

  • I think youre off-base but kind of right.

I don’t think masai is stupid enough to not pay Siakam a max deal. He’s still gonna offer him the 30% max (don’t think he gets 35% even if he probably will sneak into All-NBA this year) which is the most that anyone can offer him.

The problem is that 6ers will offer him the same money and a chance to win a chip with Embiid and Maxey. 6ers can get Siakam and still have room to pay OG $35-40M/year and pay Maxey a rookie max extension. That lineup of Embiid/Siakam/OG/Oubre/Maxey is a title contender easily.

I don’t see how Toronto is ever going to be the most attractive option for Siakam or OG, even if we offer the same/more money.

  • The only three guys on this entire roster who might be part of the next great Raptors roster are Scottie, Dick, and OG if he isn’t traded and sticks around through a rebuild. Jury is out on Koloko because I think there’s a chance his medical issues may in fact derail his entire career.

When the nearest competitive version of your team only includes 3 current players in this way, you have to tear it down, you just do. I truly don’t think Masai and Bobby are the right guys for the job anymore if they can’t see that.
