In which case, Flus probably isn’t going anywhere.

who’s been a bottom 5 passer since entering the league.
This is not a thing, at least not this year.
Which guy is worth taking though?
We won, but this is the most down I’ve been on Fields all year. It’s complicated.
Roschon Johnson = RB1.
I feel like this is at the crux of the Fields vs. draft QB debate.
If you don’t draft a QB at #1, you can take higher-probability successes (MHJ) or trade down into more picks, which increases the chances you get some viable starters and possibly even elite players.
If you do draft a QB, you’re really hoping that guy works out. And by “works out” I mean is an elite contributor at the NFL level. He has to be, because you’re trying to replace a fairly average NFL starter, so the marginal benefit is diminished if the guy you draft is just pretty good.
I’m not ignoring any of that. Furthermore, I do not think Fields’ rush rate is sustainable.
So, speaking as someone who would prefer to keep Fields and take MHJ…
Caleb Williams is being very underrated at this point, and would look like Bagent with a cannon in our offense. I just worry that Chicago will destroy him.
I don’t know what to do with that information other than post it here. Just a semi-random thought for the draft speculation thread of the day.
Our talent level is where it needs to be to compete most weeks against most teams, but it’s not where it needs to be to be favored against decent teams quite yet.
The case for keeping Eberflus, to the extent one exists, is in the improvement we see each week from the young guys. You can’t separate growth in guys like Jones, Stevenson, Dexter, Gordon, Fields, etc. from the guy who keeps talking about the need to get the details right and focus on execution week after week. These things are related!
It’s fair to ask if Eberflus is the coach to make this team a winner (maybe not), but it’s also fair to ask if he is the best coach to build a winning roster (maybe).
This team, top to bottom, is really close to being able to compete week after week. Add a couple difference makers and we’re a real competitor.
Sucks how Bears QB’s are ruining this guy /s
Having a fast WR stretch the field creates space underneath by pulling safety help.
The rest of the play might be bad, but having a speed guy take the top off isn’t bad at all.
The Broncos are a .500 team now. That feels relevant.
I like option 3 a lot if you keep Fields for one more year. It might also be interesting to retain Getsy to work under Harbaugh – you could take a position of modifying the playbook gradually instead of simply introducing an entire new system. Flus isn’t really in a position to override Getsy, but Harbaugh would be.
So you’d have Getsy operating as an understudy to Harbaugh, and McCarthy getting a year carrying a clipboard under Fields, with Bagent able to stand in in the event of injury. And you’d have MHJ. That feels a lot healthier than starting from scratch with a mercurial HC and a rookie QB.
There’s always Justin.
The spacing issues.
The blocking assignment issues.
The overly long developing routes.
The over-reliance on screens.
The idiotic use of play action on third and long.
Justin makes mistakes, absolutely. But you almost couldn’t design a better offense to play against his strengths.
Moore/Mooney/Kmet/WR3 isn’t bad. Our offense has enough talent. I’d like a pass catching back, but that’s about it.
Could you keep the playbook and change the playcaller?
How we lose matters.
That QB has done reasonably well with Minnesota until playing us though.
