  • I love Daniels, I fully expect that once his measurables start coming out before the draft, he’s gonna skyrocket up the board. I personally think in the right system he could wind up being the best QB in this draft. Size, strength, speed, cannon arm. He’s literally what you’d build if you were making the polar opposite of Mac Jones in a lab.

  • Agreed. They need to be looking at the next two years as building years, not just this coming offseason. WR, Edge, OT, TE are all going to be major areas of need (their current 2024 roster is literally empty at TE and OT) with lesser but still required depth needs at CB and RB. They’ll also need to figure out safety long-term as well, not sure Duggar is the long-term answer at FS. SS absolutely, but he still looks lost at times in coverage. Some teams definitely still target him in the red zone.

  • It is possible objectively speaking to do both. In theory, you SHOULD be all set going forward along the interior, having spent multiple draft picks at those positions over the past two seasons. Strange, Sow, Andrews (the newer one), and Mafi are all 1st or 2nd year players. Gotta think between those 4 guys, OG Andrews, and them likely resigning either Brown or Onwenu they should be able to come up with at least 3 or 4 legitimate starters. That basically just leaves one of the tackle positions. While they could reasonably select one of the top 2 tackles if they wind up picking somewhere between 4-6, if they find themselves in the top 3 it would be foolish to ignore the opportunity to select one of the top 2 QBs or a can’t-miss, offense-altering WR1 in Harrison Jr.

Personally, I thought it was a HUGE mistake not trading and rolling forward some of those mid round picks last offseason to put towards this year’s draft, as this year’s class is EXTREMELY deep at many positions of need. There will be legitimate starting caliber talent at OT, Edge, and WR out there on day 2 of this draft. Having a really strong draft in rounds 2-4 this year could really alter the direction of this franchise pretty quickly. Unfortunately, Belichick felt kicker and punter were more pressing needs and spent 3 of those mid round picks on that instead.

  • It is possible to respect what someone has done previously while also being critical of what they are doing currently. Ask yourself this: what has Bill Belichick done RIGHT over the past 4 seasons?

Has he drafted well? Not really.

Has he developed young talent well? No. Almost every young player has regressed over the past 2 years.

Has he hit any home runs in free agency? Once with Judon, who is over 30 and going to be a FA next year.

Does he still have control of the locker room? Doesn’t appear so. He just had to cut Jack Jones and will likely need to do something similar with JC Jackson at some point due to them both going totally off the reservation and being just generally bad teammates. These are guys who should have been falling over themselves to fall in line behind Bill, as he essentially attempted to save both of their careers. Instead, they basically flipped him the bird and did their own thing to the point where one of them got flat out fired.

Does the team feel like it is going in a positive direction? If there is a direction or plan, I certainly don’t see it. What’s this teams starting roster even going to look like next year? No one knows.

  • Yeah, the cap isn’t real in the NFL. I can’t believe I still need to explain this to people. Buffalo can just restructure a few players next year and easily bring in more than enough money to get anyone they want (just like every other team). The cap is only as real as a team’s owner wants it to be. And again… who cares? Players won’t go to Buffalo to ring chase? Are players coming to New England for ANYTHING right now other than a paycheck?? They’ll be lucky to resign the mediocre players they already have. Face it, without drastic changes to the roster and staff… New England is 100% the worst team in their division and won’t even be close to Buffalo any time soon. Get comfortable.

  • I don’t disagree. Coaching (specifically on the offensive side) is one of their issues. They’re going through an evolution on offense, and right now, it’s just not going well. You can see on film what they WANT to do, it’s just clunky and chaotic looking at the moment. I think Diggs is a huge part of that. I assume he’s been emo all year because he doesn’t like the idea of being used as a decoy as much as he has been this year. I also suspect that was part of the plan from the jump, and that’s why he showed up to camp pissed off… but the thing is, they kinda have to do that. They can’t be so Allen-to-Diggs centric. It’s become too predictable and all the teams are just bracketing him now like Belichick does with him and Hill. They’re clearly trying to actively move away from that, but Allen often reverts back to it in tight situations, which is a problem but again, ultimately fixable. When he spreads the ball between Diggs, Davis, Kincade, and Knox… the offense moves much more smoothly and also seems to open up the run a little more for them. That said, you’re right: makes no sense that they still are devoid of a run game. On film at times it looks like they CAN run but choose not to then at times it looks like they want to and just can’t. Again as you said, that’s a coaching/philosophy thing. A stupid problem to have but one that you can correct.

  • The difference is that Buffalo already has the hardest thing in football to get: an elite quarterback. I’ve watched a lot of the all 22 on Buffalo recently because I was curious about what was going on with them recently. I can say with confidence that just about everything wrong in Buffalo right now is pretty fixable. I won’t bore you with the details (unless you want them) but there’s a combination of things going on with them and none of them are so bad they can’t be worked out over time.

Bottom line is this: the window isn’t closing on Buffalo. It would be a mistake to assume that based off of a 10 game sample. Believe me, I wish that were the case, but it’s just not. So long as they have Allen, the window will remain open. The rest, comparatively speaking, is easy for them. Just like it was easy for NE for 20 years. To say that somehow NE is in some kind of better position right now compared to Buffalo is a fairly ridiculous assertion. Bad as Buffalo has looked at times this year, they’re still light-years ahead of NE. In terms of their record, talent, coaching staff, and plan going forward… it’s really not even a comparison. 99.999% of people, if given the choice, would take Buffalo’s roster, staff, and current situation over New England’s. Buffalo has a much better QB, much better WRs, much better TEs, a better OL, and (when healthy) a better defense.

NE not only looks directionless, they don’t have a single thing to point to right now where you can say, “Well, they have that going for them.” They have a 72 year old head coach/GM that can’t do either job well right now. Their coaching staff is laughably bad and has been for several years now. They have no young talent outside of a rookie CB on IR, an undersized 6th round WR from Liberty, and Barmore, who will be up for a new contract after next year. The only skill players they have locked up the next two years are Juju and Parker, who are both getting outplayed by the 130lb Pop Douglas. Their starting QB has literally been molded into the worst QB in football, their backup QB might be even worse, and they’re likely not going to lose enough games to get the #1 pick. No, I’m not sure “look on the bright side, we could be Buffalo” makes much sense. You gotta realize, NE would be incredibly LUCKY if they came out next year and looked like Buffalo does this year.

  • The coaching staff ruined him. No other way to look at it. In the 2022 preseason joint practices with the Giants, he absolutely teabagged Dan Jones. DJ didn’t even look like he belonged on the field with Mac. Since that time he got saddled with a mediocre DC as his OC and a head coach that clearly grew to legitimately hate him by year’s end. Then this year, he got BoB, who is not exactly the best guy in terms of fixing an already broken QB. The stuff Jones is screwing up now is not stuff he was screwing up in his rookie season. I mean, no one could have seen this coming. I always thought that 3 OCs in 3 years on a team with no offensive line and their best skill player being an undersized 6th round pick from Liberty was a recipe for success.
