  • I just leased an Ionic 6 SEL for considerably less than the cost of a Model 3. Leasing is usually a poor financial decision (unless you own a business and can write it off), but the foreign companies who aren’t eligible for the $7500 tax credit are now deducting $7500 from the cost of a 3-year lease, and it works out to literally half price - I paid $2k down, $402/mo including tax, plus a free L1 charger (Tesla cost $750), a free L2 charger with a $600 installation credit, and 2 years of free charging at Electrify America. Just saw an ad for leasing an ID.4 - $0 due at signing, $436/mo. Again, less than the model 3. And by most accounts, both cars are superior to the model 3.

  • As a brand-new EV owner, I can say they are simply better cars. Better pickup, as quiet as a Rolls Royce, and right now, between federal credits and dealer specials, cheaper than ICE cars. No oil changes, no smog checks, no wasting time at gas stations. And with dirt cheap electric available from midnight to 3pm, and the price of gas in California, much less expensive to run.

The environmental aspects are up for debate - perhaps we’re just moving pollution from local to global. The real solution is widespread, cheap/free public transport. But good luck with that in the US.

  • I just leased an Ionic 6 sel RWD - 320 mile range, MSRP 49k - for 2k down and $402/month (including tax). 3 years, 10,000 miles a year, all maintenance included. And an L2 charger with a $600 installation credit. I’m stunned I got a highly rated EV (Car & Driver EV of the year 2023) with every bell & whistle you could ask for, for essentially the price of a Honda Civic. Fantastic car.

Apparently EV sales are much lower than expected, so the 2024s are out and they’ve still got a bunch of 2023s sitting on the lot. I expect to save $200 or more a month, as I’m in California & we’re being price gouged with $6-7/gallon gas.
