  • If he won’t allow for someone to be in a Director of Football Ops role, and won’t take on a new OC, then yeah, it’s time.

I want Bill’s defensive mind and his integrity. I think he is still the best in the game, if they’re playing well and everyone is bought in. We haven’t watched a BB coached team that doesn’t feel they can compete before, this is new, I think that factors in. Guys get sloppy, they tune out coaching, they prioritize individual success over the team.

I wouldn’t absolutely hate BoB back as OC with a new QB, WR corps, and O-line, but I would much rather have someone else.

I would entertain McDaniels back… But would much prefer someone coming in with that DFO that could be the heir apparent.

  • At #2 I take Maye.

If Williams is there, and someone REALLLLY wants him, I’d take an absolute HAUL for him if it keeps us in the top 10.

I do the same at 3 for MHJ. I think if we can somehow come out of the 1st with some combination of Odzune/Nabers/Coleman with Daniels/McCarthy, it would be a better gain than only Maye or MHJ.

I think it’s a stretch hoping to take Maye or MHJ at 2 or 3 and hoping to get one of the remaining unless we spend capital to trade back in. I think we need to find a way to make at least 3 picks in the top 40 if we seriously think we can compete next year.

A lot of these QBs look legit. Obviously not all going to pan out, but may exceed the 2021 class. I know Nix gets a lot of hate, but that arm, and the ability to throw on the run… He looked unreal last night, as he has most of the season. Helps that he’s already 30 something years old…

QB is now CLEARLY the priority.

You can find OL available in FA, and have a better chance of finding starting caliber OL later in the draft. It’s also more readily improved by coaching and scheme. A good OT and Center can help a subpar guard, you can chip with TE to help a Tackle, you can keep your back in to pick up a blitz…

You can’t do these things as easily, really at all, with a QB. Elite QBs don’t teach FA.

There’s also a higher concentration of 1st Rd picks as “franchise” QBs in the NFL. I airquote that as some guys aren’t truly franchise guys, but the team is treating them as such currently. The Manning rule, Flag happy refs in the passing game, and NBA foul style roughing the QB calls has given a greater advantage to elite QBs, and it’s leaving average QBs in the dust.

In the past, an average starter wouldn’t be getting eclipsed by the franchise guys every single week. It was easier for defenses to limit how badly elite passing games wouldn eviscerate them. A 3 TD 300 yd game was impressive, now we see 5 of them a weekend.

Now when the 10th ranked QB can get to 30 TDs and 4500 yds, you can’t compete with a guy throwing for 15 TDs and 3000 yds.

I maintain that, unless we can get Maye, we trade back for equity, would love to get Alt and then find a way to get back into the bottom of the first and take Odzune.

Then take what drops into the 2nd at QB. McCarthy, Ewers, Daniels, or Nix; and bring Brissett back to mentor them. I think he’s been more than serviceable across his career, and would have WAS in a similar position to Howell right now, Howell just obviously has the higher ceiling.

Also think Brissett would have no issue being a mentor and stepping aside after a year if it means he gets a shot to start for a year and a multi-year contract.
